All the successes of Rapax, sponsored by Syncro

The 2017 season of FIA Formula 2 came to an end on the 26th November at the Yas Marina circuit in the United Arab Emirates. The championship was dominated by Monaco driver Charles Leclerc (Prema) with 8 pole positions out of 11. Rapax, the team sponsored by Syncro System, achieved excellent results over the season, with Nyck De Vries (rounds 1 to7), Louis Delatraz (rounds 8 to11), Johnny Ceccotto Jr (rounds 1-4), Sergio Canamasas (rounds 5-7), Roberto Mehri (rounds 8, 9 and 11) and Renè Binder (round 10).

A double podium for Rapax in round 3 in Monaco

Of the season's eleven rounds, the weekend of the Monaco Grand Prix on the 26th and 27th May delivered the best results, with the two Rapax drivers, Dutchman Nyck De Vries and Italian Johnny Cecotto occupying the two top steps of the podium. De Vries dominated all thirty laps, gaining his first win in the championship in only his third race in FIA Formula 2. Cecotto finished a well-deserved second. Rapax won a total of 37 points from the Monaco race, climbing to fifth place in the teams table.

Final results and the 2018 championship

The Rapax team, who carried the colours of Syncro System van racking for the 2017 season of Formula 2, finished fifth in the teams championship with a total of 137 points. In addition to the double podium at Monaco, the team’s name was held high by a second place for De Vries at Baku in June, a fourth place for Canasamas at Silverstone in mid-July, and another excellent performance from De Vries in the next race on the Hungaroring circuit, where he took third place. The team only just missed the podium in the Italian round on the Monza circuit: Louis Delatraz and Roberto Mehri finished fourth and fifth respectively in the meeting of the 2nd and 3rd September, earning Rapax valuable points in the teams championship. The 2018 season begins on the 7th April at the Sakhir circuit in Manama, Bahrain.
