Commercial vehicles are often used to support a firm’s core business and are converted into mobile stores or workshops containing everything needed to repair or service vehicles or machines. The Ducato L3H2 seen on this page is a case in point. The van is operated by a company that constructs underground and above ground defence works, embankments and piling, and also performs demolition work. These works often have to be done in emergencies following extreme weather events like floods or landslips, and involve the use of heavy excavators, front loaders and bulldozers.
The company asked us to fit out this Ducato as a mobile operations centre for its personnel, with enough space to carry all their tools, spare parts, ropes and instruments, and accessories for effective working and a minimum of comfort under all logistic conditions.
Protecting the bodywork is the first essential step in fitting out any van, whatever kind of racking system is to be installed.
The Ducato seen here is fitted with a marble-look plywood floor liner. The bulkhead liner and the inside panels of the wheel arch liners are made from the same material. The walls and doors, on the other hand, are lined with painted steel panels.
This excellent lining system leaves only the roof unprotected but even this part of the van can be lined if required.
Look here for other examples of Fiat Ducato lining systems.
The racking system in this Ducato is concentrated on the vehicle’s right wall, with just one cabinet on the bulkhead. This solution leaves plenty of space inside the van for transporting even large machines and equipment without blocking access to the racking.
The van is fitted with:
The van is equipped with various cargo retaining accessories for greater functionality. Two bar racks with straps are fixed to the sides of the racking, a cut-to-size rail is attached to the middle of the left side wall and a bar with sliding and adjustable hooks is fixed to the top of the same wall.
The left rear door is equipped with two typical cleaning accessories: a paper roll holder and a handwash kit with a plastic water container and tap.
This racking configuration and this choice of accessories ensures maximum freedom in positioning, as the various accessories can be fixed either to the racking side panels or to the van’s bodywork.
