A Connect racking system for a construction machinery company
How do you decide how much racking to install?
Consider the following factors to answer this question:
- What work do you do and what will you use the van for?
- What do you need to carry most frequently or always have with you?
- Will you often have to transport “exceptionally large” items?
- Can you afford to “do without” a point of access and use it in another way?
Answering these questions clearly will help you determine how your van’s cargo compartment should best be used.
Combined with a list of the equipment and accessories you need, your answers will allow the Syncro team to build up a complete picture and start designing a personal racking system that meets all the above criteria.
A Ford Connect L2 H1 racking solution for servicing construction machinery
The van described on this page is a Ford Connect L2 H1 owned by a company that sells and hires construction equipment. The van is used to provide on-site assistance. The racking is configured to carry all the equipment needed for work while retaining ample floor space for bulky cargo and permitting access to spares and tools directly from the ground.
With these objectives in mind, a racking module was installed at the opening of the side door while the right wall was left completely clear.
Let’s take a closer look.

Lining your van is ALWAYS a good investment!
Have no doubts about the usefulness of installing interior liners. They protect your van’s sheet metal body against dents and scratches, provide secure anchorage for racking and accessories, make cleaning the cargo compartment so much easier and make your van look far more professional too!
The floor of this Ford Connect for servicing construction machinery is covered with a marble-look plywood floor liner with stainless-steel anchor ring cups and edge profiles. The van’s walls are lined with galvanised, grey-painted steel panels.

The Connect’s left side: multi-purpose storage
The Connect’s racking is concentrated mainly on the left wall and at the side door on the right. In particular, on the left, we have:
- a large floor-level compartment delimited by a patented lift-and-rotate door that folds down to offer unrestricted access and leaves a practical gap at the top
- six metal drawers, each with a non-slip bottom mat and internal space dividers
- two configurable shelves of different depths to cater for the contour of the van walls.
Reaching what you need without having to climb aboard
As requested by the customer, the racking in this Ford Connect was configured so that part of it faces outwards. The column of racking on the right occupies most of the opening for the side door but every element in it is accessible from the ground.
The column consists of four metal drawers, four pull-out trays for cases and a top shelf. This provides storage for the power tools, hand tools, spare parts and sundries needed for most machine servicing jobs. Stability is ensured by an aluminium bracket connecting the side of the racking to the roof of the van.
Accessories and more: install now or later?
The Connect presented on this page is fitted with only two accessories: a bar rack with metal flange and lashing strap on the side panel of the left-hand racking and an LED tube light under the roof.
The photos clearly show that there is plenty of room remaining to install other accessories if needed. Can you add accessories later? Of course!
