A Syncro racking system can turn any van into a functional service workshop. The work area, however, needs to be well equipped and practical, with plenty of space for the operator to move around and with all tools and equipment within easy reach.
On this page we present a Ford Transit L2 H2 that Syncro System fitted out for a company that installs and services equipment for the automotive and industrial sectors and also provides a mobile torque wrench calibration and certification service. As you can see, one of the side walls is entirely dedicated to servicing operations, and features a large workbench with all the equipment needed for calibration. The opposite side of the van serves as a mobile warehouse. A second, smaller workbench is installed on the bulkhead. Let’s take a closer look, starting with the essential bodywork liners.
There is no doubt about it. Installing proper liners in your van is well worth the expense. Liners cost relatively little, but soon demonstrate their worth, giving you an excellent return on your investment.
Protecting your vehicle’s bodywork avoids the sort of damage that can lead to high repair costs or, worse still, scrapping your van.
In this particular Transit L2 H2, the floor is protected by a plywood floor liner with a marble-look surface while the walls and the tops of the doors are lined with steel panelling.
In this case, the customer chose to leave the bulkhead exposed, but this too could have been covered with the same material as the floor or with chequer-plate aluminium.
The Transit’s service workshop area is located on the left of the van. A full-length, join-free, marble-look plywood work surface divides the left side wall into “above” and “below” areas. The racking under it is attached to the wall liners by means of an Airline bar, which has the added function of allowing the use of lashing straps.
Above: A large part of the workbench houses a special machine owned by the company and used to calibrate and certify torque wrenches at customers’ premises. Space for an Ecoflow Power Station and an electrical power distribution system has been left near the bulkhead. At the very top, a full-length top tray with a fold-down door towards the rear of the van is supported by brackets attached to the liners.
Below: The racking that forms the base of the workbench consists of two floor-level compartments, the first partly enclosed by a patented lift-and-rotate door, the second left open. Over these are three columns of metal drawers, the first with four wide drawers, the second and the third with three smaller drawers each. A configurable shelf completes the storage space in the work area.
The right of the van provides several storage compartments of different size and different levels of security:
What does “autonomy” mean in the context of vans? As usual, it depends on how the van is used and the user’s work.
In the case of this Transit for automotive sector services, autonomy means two fundamental things: firstly, always having available all the right equipment for use at customers’ premises, and secondly not having to depend on external sources of power to operate this equipment and other instruments.
This second requirement has been met by installing an Ecoflow Power Station in the Syncro racking. This contains a battery, a charger and an inverter and can be recharged either from an external power supply or from the vehicle’s own battery. The Ecoflow unit is flanked by power sockets of two types: a first set of industrial sockets and a second strip of Schuko sockets for small electrical devices.
The Transit’s bulkhead has been equipped too. To prepare for all possible requirements, the customer asked us to install a second workbench. In this case we chose a workbench in the form of a folding table. Mounted on aluminium profiles with folding brackets, this can be raised when needed and folded down when more space is needed for carrying cargo or moving around inside the van.
Syncro System racking centres have unrivalled experience. Syncro has specialised exclusively in van racking since 1996 and fitted out around 100,000 vehicles in the first 25 years of work alone.
