A comparison between two Sprinter racking systems

Two ways to fit out the Mercedes Sprinter compared

There’s a good reason why Syncro System has seldom fitted out two vans in exactly the same way in decades of work. That is because every solution installed by authorised Syncro racking centres is fully customised. Syncro racking centres design each solution – liners, racking and accessories – to meet the needs of the customer.

This is why it can be extremely interesting to compare vans of the same make and model that have been fitted out for people who have very different jobs. On this page we present two Mercedes Sprinter vans, both of 2018, but in two height variants. The van on the left is an L2 H2; that on the right an L2 H1. They are owned by a door and window installer and a textile plant maintenance engineer respectively. Let’s see how different the results are!

Bodywork protection for the Sprinter

The same statement can be made for all vans: fitting interior liners is an essential first step. All vans need to be protected against dents, scratches and water infiltration before any racking and accessories are installed, and certainly before the van is subjected to daily use. One tiny scratch is all it takes for rust to start, and rust is the number one enemy of all sheet metal!

The floor of the door and window installer’s Sprinter (1) is covered by a plywood floor liner with a marble-look surface, reinforced at the back doors by an aluminium tread plate profile and at the side door by a steel profile. The bulkhead is lined in marble-look plywood too, using panels shaped and arranged to follow the contours of the bodywork. The wheel arches are protected by a combination of plywood and steel panels, while the walls and doors are fully lined with high-strength steel panels.

The service engineer’s Sprinter (2) also has a floor covered in marble-look plywood but in this case both the exposed edges are reinforced by steel profiles, as too are the holes that provide access to the original anchor rings. The bulkhead of this van has been left unprotected but the walls and doors are lined by steel panels just like those in the first vehicle.

Syncro System’s solution for the door and window installer’s Sprinter L2 H2

The racking configuration in the door and window installer’s Sprinter L2 H2 is not dissimilar to that chosen by many express couriers. The main feature consists of fold-away shelves, nine of which are installed between the two walls. Thanks to the flexibility of this type of shelf and the speed with which they can be opened and closed, this solution is perfect for transporting doors, windows and equipped walls in aluminium, PVC or plastic. Another key feature of this Sprinter is its loading ramp, which is attached to a pivot mounting on the left. The ramp can be rotated outwards to permit unrestricted access to the cargo compartment.

The bulkhead is fitted with a number of accessories to provide added flexibility in using interior space. Three Syncroblock bars are installed at different heights: the bottom two are equipped with hooks and lashing straps while the top one is fitted with adjustable telescopic hooks. LED tube lights complete this van’s equipment and ensure effective illumination throughout the cargo compartment under all external lighting conditions.

Racking on all three sides of the Sprinter L2 H1 for textile plant maintenance

All three available walls have been equipped with racking in this second Sprinter, which is owned by a textile plant maintenance engineer.

On the left we have two floor-level compartments. The first is enclosed by two doors (one patented lift-and-rotate type and a lift-up type). The second is equipped with a strap-type case transport kit. Above these are thirteen metal drawers with non-slip mats and internal space dividers, four configurable shelves equipped in the same way, a shelf with removable plastic containers, and a full-length top tray for long items. On the rear-facing side panel are a pull-out bench with a metal vice, a paper roll holder and a first aid kit.

On the bulkhead is a racking unit mounted on a custom-made aluminium frame. This consists of three shelves and a cabinet with four sideways-opening drawers.

On the right of the van is a floor-level compartment with a lift-and-rotate door, a plain shelf enclosed by two doors, a series of MultiBox transparent containers (10 pull-out and 5 shallow tilting), a long configurable shelf and, on the rear-facing side panel, two cable holders.
