Congratulations all around last weekend for the Syncro System’s sponsored driver in the GP2 Series. Over the weekend, at the Italian Grand Prix 2014, held in the Monza Autodrome, the 24 year-old Stephan Richelmi ran in two prestigious races, finishing an impressive 4th place in race 1 and 3rd in race 2.
Thirty heart-pounding laps for Richelmi in race 1, held on September 6th: In 6th place at the start of the race, The Monegasque driver was able to quickly gain two positions. He held on to 4th position even after the pit-stop, and remained in forth as he crossed the finish line – a finish that earned the young driver 12 points in the overall standings.
In race 2, which took place on Sunday morning, September 7th, Richelmi managed to start well. After his strong start, he overtook the Brazilian Negrao of Arden International and Felipe Nasr (Carlin), which put him solidly in third position. He then moved into second position for a time, just behind his DAMS teammate, British driver Jolyon Palmer, who is first place in overall standings. After 21 laps, he found himself on the third step of the podium, concluding a fierce race-long competition with fellow countryman Sefano Coletti.
Thanks to the 10 points earned in race 2 along with the 12 earned in the previous one, Stephan Richelmi is now 9th in the overall standings, putting him in the top ten.
And, the engines are set to come roaring back next Friday and Saturday for the Russian Grand Prix of Russia, which will be held at the brand new Sochi International Street Circuit of Sochi.
