Syncro System in the World Series with Fortec
The 2017 season of World Series V8 3.5 came to an end in November. The final weekend of racing on the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain confirmed a third place in the drivers’ championship for Fortec driver Alfonso Celis. The Mexican finished the season with 204 points, behind Matevos Isaakyan and Pietro Fittipaldi.
The season’s podium positions: Spa for Celis and Circuit of The Americas for Menchaca
One of the best performances for Fortec in the 2017 season of World Series V8 was the pole position and first place in race 1 for Alfonso Celis in the championship’s second round on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. Celis also recorded the fastest lap on two separate occasions: at Silverstone in race 1 and at Alcaniz in race 2.
Diego Menchaca took the title of Rookie Winner four times in the season: in races 1 and 2 in Belgium, in race 2 at Alcaniz in Spain and finally in race 1 on the Nürburgring in Germany.
Alfonso Celis
Celis was born in 1996 in Mexico City. He bagan his career in karts racing in 2009, and remained in the Mexican championship until 2012, when he moved to Europe to compete in the Formula BMW Talent Cup. Celis joined Fortec in 2013 and competed in the 2013 season of the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC. He moved up to GP3 in 2014. Celis raced in World Series Formula V8 3.5 in 2016 and 2017 and has also served as test driver in Formula 1 on various occasions.
Diego Menchaca
Menchaca was born in Mexico City in 1994 and began racing karts the tender age of 8. He took part in the LATAM Challenge Series in 2011 before joining Fortec, with whom he raced in the British Formula Renault Championship in 2012 and 2013. After a year with Douglas Motorsport in BRDC Formula 4, Menchaca joined Campos Racing to compete in the Euroformula Open Championship for the next two years. He returned to Fortec in 2017 and performed extremely well in World Series Formula V8 3.5.
