In 2018 again, Syncro System and Draco Marketing will be sponsoring the Italian Offshore Championship, complementing the roar of four-wheel motor racing with the adrenaline-pumping power of offshore powerboat racing. This season, the calendar of events in the 5000 Endurance category starts in April, more precisely on the weekend of 27-29 April at San Felice Circeo in the province of Latina. The second stage takes place from 24 to 27 May in Porto Rotondo, Sardinia, and the third from 3 to 5 August in Cariati, Calabria. The last race of the season is scheduled for 21 to 23 September in Chioggia. The championship is overseen by the Italian Powerboat Federation, a member of CONI.

The Syncro System logo will appear at all the races of the Italian Offshore Championship, which are actually held near the shore in situations where excitement is guaranteed and the public can easily follow the movements of the boats. The championship will also have a paddock village where the public can view the boats, get to know their drivers and take part in collateral events.

Offshore powerboats reach extremely high speeds thanks to ultra-powerful engines. As its name suggests, offshore racing originally took place far away from the shore but more recently races have been held near the coast, in compliance with regulations laid down by the port authorities. The most common type of boat today is the catamaran, which spends most of its time literally “flying” over the water. At speeds of around 200 kilometres an hour, air is forced through the tunnel between the two hulls, dramatically reducing friction between the boat and the water. For its very nature, offshore racing demands great skill and preparation from drivers. Races have running starts, with contestants following a start boat. Power is applied as soon as the start boat raises a green flag. The race follows a circuit marked out by buoys, generally between 2.8 and 4 nautical miles long. Excitement is guaranteed!
