A TOYOTA PROACE CITY FOR A PLUMBER

A Proace City L1 H1 with racking for a plumbing service

Clear requests and customised solutions from Syncro System!

The racking system illustrated here is installed in a small van owned by a plumber who installs and services plumbing systems, boilers and air conditioners. Plumbers often have very similar requirements even if they work in different situations or specialise in different areas.

If we were asked to list the top 5 requirements presented by plumbers, we could confidently say that the following are always essential:

1. tidiness and instant access to all tools and material even in challenging logistic situations: a tidy van means much of the work is already done, time is saved and money earned!

2. a basic stock of essential components like fittings, seals, hoses, taps, valves and siphons for use in emergencies

3. basic tools such as power drills and screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches, universal pliers, pipe cutters, hacksaws and hammers

4. basic cleaning equipment for use when the job is done, like buckets, rags, wet vacuum cleaner, brush and dustpan

5. a workbench for making minor modifications or adjustments without having to return to the workshop

On top of these main premises, the specific needs of each individual plumber and the availability of space in the chosen model of van also have to be taken into account. Let’s take a closer look at this particular van.

The Toyota Proace City L1 H1 is the smallest van in the Toyota range. It stands out for its compact dimensions and for the versatility of the cargo compartment, which is actually quite spacious and functional when properly configured. The loadspace is approximately 3.3 cubic meters through the floor does not exceed 2 meters in length. The plumber who bought this van chose the version with a sliding side door in order to have two ways to access the loadspace in crowded urban environments and confined spaces.

The vehicle came into Syncro’s workshop with a floor liner already fitted. Our team completed the lining by applying polypropylene panels to the walls and doors.

Racking was then installed on both sides of the van, leaving only the bulkhead completely free.

The left of the Proace City: compact but spacious racking

With Syncro racking, you can get everything you need – and more – into even the smallest van. This is thanks to the amazing flexibility with which Syncro racking components can be combined and the vast number of items (over 55,000!) in the Syncro System catalogue.

On the left of this Proace City we can see:

A vice bench makes a big difference but takes up little room

Even where there seems to be no room left for a work surface, Syncro can find it! In this Proace City the solution was to install a pull-out vice bench between the floor-level case compartment and the racking above. The vice bench itself consists of a length of plywood with its two sides reinforced by stainless steel profiles.

When not in use, this accessory occupies only the space needed for the vice to protrude from the racking. The bench takes only a few seconds to extend fully. The side of the racking is protected against accidental impacts and dents by a small panel of aluminium chequer plate.

A secure, all-purpose case compartment

A floor-level space can be transformed into a great case compartment capable of holding all kinds of tool cases. The kit installed in this Toyota Proace City provides a “universal” solution for transporting cases. Thanks to the presence of a sliding shuttle and a lashing strap, this type of kit is more secure and more versatile than previous types.

A custom solution on the right of the Proace City

The racking on the right of this Proace City satisfies two distinct needs: storage for tools and consumables and floor space for carrying the indoor and outdoor units of air conditioning systems, washbasins, toilets, bidets and other bulky items.

This custom solution uses an aluminium frame to support three shelves.

A hook and strap lashing system is attached to the frame upright at one end and to the van’s rear door pillar on the other.

Accessories? You can decide later if you want!

Accessories are more than optionals. They can turn your van into a safer, more functional mobile workshop.

The only accessories installed in this plumber’s Proace City are for internal lighting. LED tube lights have been fixed to the roof cross-members to provide uniform illumination throughout the cargo compartment.

If the plumber needs to add something else at a later date, no problem. Accessories for cargo retention, ventilation, cleaning and lighting can always be installed later, to the racking side panels, interior liners or van bodywork.
