The Combo L1 H1 is the smallest van in the Opel range. It’s compact size and agility make it ideal for professionals who work on the move. The Combo is often the choice of mobile professionals who have to reach city centres, mountainous areas and narrow country lanes like. That is certainly the case with the van seen here. This Combo is owned by a freelance surveyor who uses it to take soil samples. Given the nature of his work, the customer needed a small van, but with enough room inside to carry a quad bike and racking for tools and equipment.
Let’s take a look at the solution designed by Syncro System.
One phase in the van transformation process that Syncro System never skips is the installation of bodywork protection. Robust liners are particularly important in cases like this. Given the need to load and unload a quad on a daily basis, the original floor would be subject to continuous stress and would deteriorate rapidly if left unprotected. The van’s floor was therefore covered by a birch plywood floor liner with a marble-look surface. The liner is specially made for this model of van and comes complete with stainless-steel anchor ring cups and protective edge profiles at the rear and side doors. These profiles effectively protect the edges of the plywood against damp and damage, greatly extending the life of the floor liner. The van’s rear doors have been protected too. In this case, the lining panels are made from painted steel and are pre-shaped and pre-drilled at Syncro’s works in Italy.
Despite the compact dimensions of the cargo compartment, the entire left side of this Combo is equipped with racking while still leaving enough space to load a quad into the van. This is thanks to the amazing versatility of Syncro System van racking and the experience of the team that designs and installs it. To allow for the overall dimensions of a small 50 cc quad, the shelves were installed at a height above the quad’s wheels, supported by narrow side panels.
The racking system is made up of four shelves with rear panels to stop items falling down behind, non-slip bottom mats in washable rubber and metal dividers. A full-length top tray with a fold-down door at the rear allows even long objects to be carried. A spray can rack has been fitted to the rear-facing side panel.
Quads are basically four-wheel motorcycles designed to tackle all sorts of terrain, even the roughest. In this case, the quad chosen by the customer is a small, 50 cc model. This is why it was not thought necessary to fit the Combo with a loading ramp, an accessory that is nearly always needed to transport larger motorcycles. The only provision made was the installation of a robust system for securing the quad and preventing it from moving around inside the van, eliminating risk for the van’s occupants and other road users.
Syncro System’s vast range of van accessories boasts a solution for every possible need. Cleaning accessories are among the most popular products as they enable users to wash their hands and clean tools and equipment before stowing them, even in challenging logistic situations like open countryside and remote smallholdings.
The left rear door of the Opel Combo seen here is fitted with a handwash kit consisting of a water container with tap and a soap dispenser, complete with dedicated holders. These two accessories are therefore positioned where they are easily accessible without having to climb into the van. Any water spillages are kept well clear of the van’s floor too.
