Three special racking systems for the fire brigade /1
Syncro System’s dealer for the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of north east Italy recently installed three special racking systems in vehicles destined for use by the local fire brigade’s Regional Telecommunications Centre and Water and Underwater Rescue Group. The three installation recipients were two Volkswagen Crafters and one Fiat Fullback pickup, all latest generation, high-tech models. The new racking systems are fully customised to make fire fighters’ work safer and more effective in everyday situations and in the event of natural disasters.

With a canopy fitted, it becomes impossible to walk around in the back of this pickup despite its good carrying capacity. Luckily, Syncro System has an excellent solution to this problem in the form of a racking slide mounted on ball-bearing runners. The slide can be pulled out from the pickup by pressing a practical release button and drawing it out to the desired extension – partly or fully open.
The slide is held in place by a metal frame and is covered by a robust panel of marble-look plywood on which the racking is installed. The pickup’s racking system is made up of seven shelves: three accessible from the back of the vehicle and four arranged in pairs to either side.
The bottom two rear shelves are installed with their edges facing down and are fitted with fully opening, lift-and-rotate doors while the top shelf is fitted with its edges facing up to form a tray for small items, drawings and consumables.
The shelves at the sides of the racking are fitted with non-slip mats and can be configured into separate compartments using the metal dividers provided. A back panel has been added behind each one to increase carrying capacity and stop material falling down inside. In this intelligently designed racking system, the contents of the top shelves on both sides of the pickup can also be accessed from the canopy’s side windows even without pulling out the slide.
