Syncro System has donated shelving to the Municipality of Cassola (VI) for use in the first bookcrossing initiative launched at municipal level.
The shelves are already in place in three sports facilities in the heart of the province of Vicenza: Junior Gymnastics 2000, Cassola Council’s Amateur Sports Centre and ASD Volley Cassola. Here, they have assumed the role of bookcases for books that athletes and users of the various facilities place at the disposal of team-mates, coaches and visitors, stimulating further exchanges and a constructive cycle of reading.
Luca Comunello, President of Syncro System, took part in the inauguration ceremony alongside representatives of the municipal council, Cristina Lunardon, head of the Municipal Library, and members of the the Vaganti readers group.
“Syncro System,” explained Luca, "has decided to support this bookcrossing initiative for various reasons. One of them is the gratitude we owe to the area where our company has been based for 65 years.”
The initiative is part of the company’s wider social responsibility project. Syncro supports all initiatives that have a positive impact on the local community, and prefers to donate resources that benefit the social fabric rather than simply advertising its presence.
Bookcrossing began online in 2001 with the aim of “making the whole world a library”.
Bookcrossing has been defined as an unusual experiment in global sociology. It involves leaving books free of charge in public places, from where acquaintances or strangers can take them away to read.
After reading, the books can even be returned to different points of exchange, as long as they remain available to all. In this way, books are freed from the shelves where they were previously confined in private homes and become available to far more readers, thereby contributing to positive change even far away from the original donor. The cultural exchange derived from the initiative promotes the personal growth of all involved.
