Upfit of the Ford Connect with drawers, ladder and cases

THE FORD CONNECT UPFIT

The Connect or Transit Connect, as it is officially called by its manufacturer, Ford, is a small-sized van introduced on the market in 2002 by the German/American automotive company, Ford. The body comes in two different versions. The dimensions of the L1 H1 version of the Connect put it firmly in the small-sized van category, whereas the L2 H2 version provides much greater cargo volume. Thanks to the remarkable modularity of the Syncro System components, the upfit for the Connect creates a highly functional work vehicle, allowing for the orderly, safe storage and transport of tools, equipment, and spare parts, while at the same time having them easily accessible when needed. All this, with lots of convenient space left over to bring extra the materials and equipment you might need on the work site. In the photos on this page, you can see a Ford Connect upfit with steel drawers on both sides. The floor panel for the Connect (like in all upfits) is indispensable for both protecting the metal cargo floor and for creating a solid base on which to install the modular components of the interior upfit. The installed floor panel is made of a durable, non-slip coated plywood with recessed steel anchorage points designed to lock down cargo using cables or straps. Above the wheels, we mounted wheel house covers with hinged doors. Over these base components (on both sides of the cargo space), we installed a shelving unit with two shelves and metal dividers. Finally we added the innovative Syncro System drawer units with clear plastic drawers – for easy storage and retrieval of numerous small parts, tools, and fittings.

UPFIT OF THE FORD CONNECT WITH METAL DRAWERS AND FORWARD-TILTING PLASTIC DRAWERS

You can see in these photos how we secured the ladder (left side of the cargo area) on the end panel of the drawer unit module using a strap and spring-activated clasp. The vacuum cleaner was mounted for access from the side door with custom-made mounting bracket. The large portable utility case was also positioned for easy access from the side door - on two plate hooks, and is secured in place with strap and spring-activated clasp. An aluminum track with straps was postitioned on the left side to allow the client to fasten down other bulky cargo. This Connect upfit is not without a few extremely useful van accessories: mounted on the back door is a cable hanger, we added various straps and locking claps for securing materials and equipment, a 11 Watt light providing a strong but pleasant light. On the right side, close to the back doors, we mounted a handy paper towel roll holder.
