A Ford Connect with Syncro equipment for installing photovoltaic systems
The vehicle seen in these photos is the small-medium Ford Connect, a van that is easy to manoeuvre even in the tightest situations. This particular Connect was fitted out by Syncro System for a company that installs, maintains and repairs photovoltaic systems. The customer expressed the following specific requirements:
- plenty of free space for carrying the equipment and materials needed to install and service photovoltaic systems
- enclosed containers for spares, tools and hardware
- a roof rack capable of carrying ladders, pipes and cable channels
How to double the space inside
The Connect’s cargo compartment is hardly one of the largest in the commercial vehicle segment, but it can still be fully exploited by fitting a custom storage system. In this case the solution chosen by the customer was to install underfloor drawers. The raised floor over the drawers is made from a plywood floor liner with a marble-look resin surface. This floor is strong enough to support heavy cargo and even to walk on, and is actually designed to carry the same weight as the original van floor. The system provides a total of four drawers, three that open towards the rear of the van and one that opens outwards from the side door. All the drawers can be extended for their entire length, providing easy access to all contents. There is even an automatic retaining mechanism to eliminate the risk of accidental opening. Inside, they are fitted with non-slip mats and metal space dividers to keep different items separate and maximise efficiency for the user.
The roof of the Connect: a great resource
For a company that installs photoelectric systems, a ladder is an essential item of equipment. 99% of Syncro customers choose to carry their ladders on the roof even if there is actually enough space inside the van. This is not only safer but provides faster access and frees up valuable space inside for more important cargo or for use as a van workshop. This Connect is no exception to the rule. The roof has been fitted with three cross bars, a single ladders slide and two pipe carriers. The ladder slide incorporates gas springs for damped descent and assistance when lifting. The two pipe carriers, positioned one alongside the other, are of two types:
- one square model in aluminium, with two lockable doors
- one round model in stainless steel, with a door only at the rear.
