In 2017, the Volkswagen Group decided to terminate its long-standing collaboration with Mercedes and produce its own large van. Volkswagen constructed a purpose-built factory in Poland to manufacture the new model. The resulting van is sold under two names: Volkswagen Crafter and MAN TGE.
The van is one of the largest on the market and is sold in two wheelbase variants, with a cargo capacity of up to 18.4 m³. Depending on version, length varies from 5,986 mm to 7,391 mm and height from 2,355 mm to a maximum of 2,835 mm.
The van’s generous cargo compartment permits large quantities of goods, equipment and tools to be carried.
INTERIOR BODYWORK PROTECTION FOR THE TGE
As with all commercial vehicles, the TGE’s cargo compartment is inadequately protected. This means that heavy objects striking the walls can easily cause damage. Impacts of this type cause the dents we are all so familiar with and that, if not repaired quickly, lead to rust and, sooner or later, far higher repair costs.
Even the floor panels are not particularly strong and can be dented by unevenly distributed loads or heavy objects with protruding parts. Syncro floor and bulkhead liners for the TGE are made from 12 mm thick, marine-grade plywood with a marble-look resin or rubber surface, steel edging at the doors, and recessed cups for the anchor rings. Floor and bulkhead liners are also available in 2 + 1.8 mm thick aluminium tread plate.
Syncro wall and door liners for the TGE are made from painted steel or from raw, anodised or chequer-plate aluminium, and come pre-shaped and pre-drilled, ready for fitting. Lightweight liners in honeycomb plastic are also available.
