A MAN TGE with racking for a building firm

What construction companies need to carry around

Every job requires its own set of equipment, tools and materials. Even similar businesses within the same profession may have differing needs. That is why every van racking system must be designed to ensure a certain degree of flexibility.

The MAN TGE L3 H3 seen on this page is owned by a construction company that gave us the following requirements:

1. to keep tools and small parts in order, with the most frequently used items nearest to hand

2. to have safe places for carrying cases containing drills and other power tools, along with more bulky items like saws and hoses

3. to have one or more robust, strategically located work surfaces

4. to have the autonomy necessary to carry on working in the absence of an external power supply

5. to carry jerry cans of fuel and oil without risk of spillage

How were these goals achieved? We’ll examine them one at a time, but let’s take a look at the van’s liners first.

The first step before racking and accessories!

The final decision is always up to the customer, of course, but when it comes to van liners, Syncro always makes one thing clear: fitting them is key to a long working life for your van. The owners of this MAN TGE chose the strongest liners available and asked us to install a two-layer floor liner made from plywood and aluminium tread plate, a combination of materials that creates a floor strong enough to resist the toughest challenges. Steel edge profiles protect the plywood under-layer against moisture and dirt.

The walls are fully lined with custom-made, laser-cut steel panelling.

1. Carrying tools and small parts in perfect order

This type of request is almost universal and is made by almost all mobile professionals. In this van, Syncro’s answer takes the form of:

  • different sizes of metal drawers, all with ball-bearing runners: this MAN TGE has a total of 10, all on the left
  • configurable shelves with non-slip mats and internal dividers: 11 in all, between the right and left sides of the van, some small and ideal for everyday items like adhesive tape, cans and gloves, others larger and able to carry bigger tools arranged in separate compartments
  • a full-length tray at the top of the left-side racking for transporting not only long items like cable channels, but straight edges, spirit levels, metric rods, trowels, rulers and the like too
  • a specially shaped open shelf for plastic containers in the right-side racking, housing five removable containers
  • two spray can racks, one silicone tube rack and two metal pockets, fixed to the side panels of the right-side racking.

2. Space for cases and bulky equipment

Drills and power screwdrivers, along with all their accessories, are generally carried in cases, but the shape and size of these can differ radically depending on make. How can you carry them all safely? A compartment has been created specifically for this purpose in this MAN TGE. It is located at floor level along the left wall and is equipped with a case transport kit with end plate and lashing strap. This solution securely holds cases of all sizes and in any number!

For larger items, the van offers two floor-level compartments fitted with Syncro’s patented lift-and-rotate doors to keep everything safely inside. One is next to the case compartment on the left, the other over the wheel arch on the right

3. The van’s tough, practical work surfaces

Any mobile workshop worth the name needs a bench for repairs and adjustments. This construction company’s MAN TGE has two.

On the left is a workbench with a marble-look plywood top and dedicated lighting from an LED tube light under the top tray.

On the rear side panel of the right-side racking you can see a fold-away vice bench complete with metal vice. This takes up very little space when closed, but opens quickly and easily to form a practical, robust work surface (complete with folding support) that can be used from outside the vehicle.

4. Essential accessories for autonomy

Construction sites don’t always have everything you need. You may often find yourself with no reliable source of electricity or compressed air. What can you do?

To be ready for these situations, the owner of this MAN TGE has assigned space to a powerful Ecoflow power station with industrial and standard sockets. The unit is connected to a power cable reel under which a compressed air hose reel is installed.

5. Carrying liquids without drips and spillages

The owners of this MAN TGE only need to carry two plastic jerry cans, so all that was needed was to install a jerry can tray on an open shelf in the right-side racking. For additional requirements and to transport metal jerry cans, Syncro can also install a stainless-steel sealed tray with bottom grille.

For “unusual” loads and items too big for shelves and drawers?

Unusual loads to carry? It’s always best to provide for them! In this case Syncro has added two aluminium bars with Airline holes to the bulkhead. The straps attached to these bars can be used to secure awkwardly shaped cargo that won’t fit in the racking!
