Racking solutions for plumbers: A BYD ETP3 vs. a Fiat Doblò
Two plumbers’ racking systems compared: a BYD ETP3 and a Fiat Doblò L1 H1
Syncro System designs and installs fully customised racking solutions for all trades and professions, but plumbers are certainly among those who come to Syncro workshops most frequently.
Though all plumbers have certain requirements in common, every racking system we install is unique. We stand out for our ability to respond in a totally personal way to all requests. After all, even if our customers work in the same trade, they may specialise in different aspects, live in different climates, focus on certain types of job, and follow different procedures. In fact, there are thousands of variables.
With this in mind, on this page we compare two Syncro racking solutions, both for plumbers, but in different vans and with partly different choices. Let’s dive in!
Similar configurations but customised solutions
The two vehicles seen in these photos are similar in size. They are a BYD ETP3 (1) and a Fiat Doblò L1 H1 (2).
Use: Both are owned by plumbers who install and service heating and air conditioning systems.
Dimensions: The two vans are similar in size and both belong to the small-medium compact category, though the BYD has a slightly larger cargo compartment (3.5 m3 vs. 3.3 m3).
Engines: The BYD is full electric while the Doblò is a diesel. The first is therefore more suitable for use in urban or restricted traffic areas; the second is better suited to long distance travel and motorway journeys.
Configuration: The main difference is the presence of two sliding side doors on the BYD but only one on the right of the Doblò. Racking has been installed on both sides of the two vehicles and the two bulkheads have been fitted with cargo lashing accessories.
The difference lies in the details, so let’s look at them systematically.
Liners for compact vans
Syncro System’s racking technicians always start by installing liners, as these are essential for protecting the bodywork against dents, scratches and damp, and also provide stable support for racking and accessories.
In this case, however, the lining stage was skipped because the BYD ETP3 came to us with an aluminium tread-plate floor liner already fitted at the time of purchase, and the Doblò came to us with a plywood floor liner installed by another company.

The left side: with or without sliding door
The left of these two vans is arranged in a similar way. The racking in both reaches almost up to the roof and covers all the available wall. In the case of the BYD, however, this is limited by the side door.
BYD ETP3 (1)
The floor-level compartment around the wheel arch is partially enclosed by a patented lift-and-rotate door. Further up are three shelves with raised rear panels, non-slip mats and internal space dividers.
Accessories: Six plastic and metal hooks have been fixed to the rear-facing side panel.
Fiat Doblò (2)
The floor compartment is equipped with a case transport kit with side panel and lashing strap. The central section of the racking is divided equally between two drawers on the inside and two patented case trays towards the rear. At the top are two configurable shelves with non-slip mats and space dividers.
Accessories: Two spray can racks are fixed to the rear-facing side panel.
The right side: flexibility or storage for small parts
Despite having identical side door configurations, the right of these two plumbers’ vans is arranged quite differently.
BYD ETP3 (1)
Here, the racking is identical to that on the opposite side, with a partly enclosed floor-level compartment and three shelves.
Fiat Doblò (2)
The racking in this van consists of a floor-level compartment almost completely enclosed by a patented lift-and-rotate door and three MultiBox cabinets with a shallow model at the top. These cabinets provide a total of twelve pull-out transparent containers and three tilting containers.
Where to carry bulky cargo? The bulkhead is a great solution
The bulkheads of the BYD ETP3 and Fiat Doblò are equipped in similar ways. A Syncroblock bar with hooks and lashing strap is installed at the bottom in the first van and at mid-height in the second van to secure cargo that is too bulky to fit in the floor-level compartments, drawers or shelves and that can be loaded and unloaded through the sliding side door(s). In the ETP3, Syncro has also added two aluminium cable holders.
