VITO: THE POWERFUL MEDIUM VAN FROM MERCEDES
The Vito is a medium-size van from the German constructor Mercedes. The first version was introduced in 1996, and a second reached the market in 2003. The Vito has seen numerous restyling operations over the years and though the load compartment has not undergone dramatic changes, it has always kept up with the latest technical solutions. The Vito is therefore a modern, high performance van, and is perfectly suited to the needs of a professional clientele.
Compared to alternative models, the Vito boasts a stronger chassis and also offers a choice of engines, including high power options that can be exploited to the full thanks to the vehicle’s excellent handling characteristics.
The load compartment is quite square in shape and is therefore ideal for installing Syncro System racking to convert the naked van into a well-equipped workshop on wheels for all kinds of business. The extremely modular design of Syncro racking, of course, greatly facilitates the customisation of all kinds of vehicle to meet end user requirements.
FITTING OUT A VITO FOR A BOILER, HEATING SYSTEM AND AIR CONDITIONING MAINTENANCE SERVICE
The Vito illustrated on this page was fitted out to meet the needs of a business that specialises in the repair and maintenance of solid and gas fuelled boilers, heat pumps, solar panels and mechanically controlled ventilation systems.
The user performs all his work at his customers’ premises and requires a well-equipped van for the secure and orderly storage and transport of all the equipment, spares, tools and sundries he needs for installing, servicing and repairing heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems and even heat pumps.
The first step in installing the Syncro System racking shown here was to fit a floor liner in resin-coated birch plywood, complete with steel edging at the doors and recesses for the original anchor rings.
A good floor liner provides a perfectly flat surface for cargo and protects the metal floor underneath against dents and scratches during daily operations.
Moving on to the racking as such, on the left we can see a configuration that starts, at the bottom, with two wheel arch cabinets, both with lift-and-rotate doors that provide complete access to the space inside for the easy storage of tools and materials.
Further up are four metal drawer cabinets containing a total of twelve drawers. These robust drawers are all fitted with telescopic, ball-bearing runners, non-slip mats, internal space dividers and recessed handles with an automatic mechanism for holding the drawer shut.
At the top of this section is an open shelf, again with mats and dividers.
The racking on the right side consists of another wheel arch cabinet at the bottom, again with a lift-and-rotate door and, further up, a cabinet of five metal drawers similar to those on the left. Higher up again is one of the best-selling items in the Syncro catalogue: a cabinet of transparent, removable containers. Syncro’s transparent containers let you see immediately what’s inside and feature a front with no protruding parts and an automatic mechanism for holding the container in place, complete with a practical release button. Syncro containers are made from the same top quality material used to make aeroplane windows. This combination of exclusive design and quality material ensures that these products enjoy a long working life.
The right side racking is also topped off by a shelf with non-slip mat and space dividers.
The van’s load compartment is lit by a powerful but compact LED ceiling light. Two aluminium rails with straps have been fitted to secure bulky cargo, one on the bulkhead and one on the front of the right side racking.
The photos also show an extension ladder secured between the left side racking and the Vito’s bulkhead, and a cable holder at the top rear of the left side racking for carrying cables, probes and extensions.
The Syncro team and the customer are delighted with the results of this project: the Vito has turned into a superb mobile workshop and has made the tasks of installing and servicing heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems so much easier!
