Racking Syncro for the Fiat Ducato

The Ducato has sold well ever since Fiat began making it back in 1981, thanks to a generous cargo capacity and good manoeuvrability, fuel economy and safety. The Ducato is also sold as the Citroen Jumper and Peugeot Boxer. The third generation, introduced in 2006, improved on the model’s already consolidated characteristics. Fiat celebrated production of the four millionth Ducato in September 2010: a sure sign of the model’s lasting appeal. Today, the Ducato is made in several variants and sells as a van, as a cab and chassis for conversions and special bodies, and as a minibus. The series introduced in 2006 features an impressively square and generous load compartment that is ideal for installing Syncro System shelves and drawers. Even after the installation of racking, on average around 10 cm more free space remains in the middle of the Ducato’s floor than in other vans in the same class. The Ducato’s vertical walls also make it easier to use space at the top of racking systems.

RACKING WITH SHELVES AND DRAWERS FOR THE DUCATO

The Ducato seen here was protected with painted steel interior liners and a 12 mm thick, marble-look, birch plywood floor liner before the racking was installed. The racking on the left of the van includes three pull-out trays with six component cases, two metal drawers mounted on telescopic ball-bearing runners, five shelves with metal space dividers and a full-length top tray for long items line pipes or cable channels. The racking on the right consists of a floor-level compartment and an open shelf, both closed in with Syncro’s patented lift-and-rotate doors. Another shelf, one cabinet of pull-out transparent containers and another cabinet of tilting transparent containers complete the configuration. Transparent containers are one of the best-selling products in the Syncro catalogue. They let you see clearly what’s inside, are made out of super-strong PMMA (the material aircraft windows are made from) and feature a sensible, compact design.

A COMPLETE MOBILE WORKSHOP IN A DUCATO

The Fiat Ducato is ideal for use as a workshop on wheels. These photos show a racking solution on the left and right sides of the van, mainly comprising shelves and drawers on telescopic ball-bearing runners, all fitted with non-slip mats and internal space dividers. On the left we can see a sealed, stainless-steel tray for transporting liquids and, at the top, a full-length tray with a door at the back for long objects. On the right is a fold-away bench with a steel vice, one of Syncro’s best selling products. The Syncro team has also installed a vertical air compressor and various accessories, including a handwash kit, a multi-purpose metal pocket, a spray can rack, four powerful LED ceiling lights for illuminating the van’s interior, a compressed air hose reel and various shelves for the customer’s own equipment.

A DUCATO WITH RACKING ON THE LEFT SIDE ONLY

One of the favourite solutions with Syncro System customers is to install racking on just one side of the van. This solution provides rational and orderly storage for a large quantity of tools and equipment while leaving most of the floor area free to carry cargo. The Ducato shown here was first fitted with a floor liner in marine-grade plywood and bodywork liners in painted steel. Shelves and drawers were then installed along the left side wall, followed by various accessories such as a paper roll holder, spray can racks, and bar and strap lashing systems.

ALUMINIUM AND STEEL LOADING RAMPS FOR THE DUCATO

The Fiat Ducato is a great van for carrying materials and equipment: in its largest variants the cargo compartment reaches quite impressive volumes, the floor is large and flat and the loading threshold is one of the lowest in the class. To make loading and unloading machines or trolleys even easier, or to load cargo using pallet transporters, the Syncro Group offers a wide range of aluminium or aluminium-and-steel ramps for the Ducato. Load capacities range from 200 kg to 1,800 kg and sizes start from only 300 mm. These photos show a Ducato with bodywork, floor and wheel arch liners and with an aluminium loading ramp of 600 kg in capacity. The neat, extendable ramp comes complete with rotating mountings, so that it can simply be swung out to gain access to the van without having to unfold it completely. This type of ramp is easy to fit, remove and move from one van to another. The photos on this page show that the fold-away vice bench is a particularly popular accessory for this van. Other much-appreciated accessories for transforming your Ducato into a fully equipped mobile workshop include the paper roll holder, fire extinguisher bracket and cable holder.
