2016 SHORT WHEELBASE CITROEN JUMPY: THE COMPACT VAN
The 2016 Jumpy is the third series of the popular Citroen van first launched way back in 1996. The Jumpy proved a great success as soon as it came out thanks to an innovative design that combined compact external dimensions with a generous load capacity. As a result, the Jumpy soon filled the gap between small and large vans that existed in the market at that time. The second series was introduced in 2007 and differed from the first for a squarer profile. This made the load compartment more practical not only for carrying cargo but for installing the Syncro racking, shelves and drawers needed to convert the van into an efficient mobile workshop.
DRAWERS FOR THE 2016 SWB JUMPY
The photos on this page show a 2016 Jumpy in the brand new short wheelbase version, one of three lengths available in the new range. The first stage in this upfit was the installation of protective floor and body liners. The Jumpy’s original floor and side walls can easily be damaged during the course of everyday loading and unloading, with consequences far more costly than Syncro System’s protective liners. In this case, the Syncro installation team fitted a floor liner made from 12 mm plywood coated in phenolic resin, complete with metal cups at the cargo anchors and steel edges at the doors. In addition to protecting the original floor, the liner also creates a perfectly flat and level surface for installing the racking. The next step was to fit body liners, in this case made from strong but lightweight honeycomb plastic. The lining panels come cut to size and pre-drilled, so the van’s walls and doors were protected in next to no time. Even the bulkhead that divides the Jumpy’s load compartment from the cab was lined with a protective panel made from the same material as the floor. Moving on to the racking as such, the storage on the left side of the van stands on a wheel arch cabinet with a parallelogram action door, a useful way of converting the space around the wheel arch into a practical storage compartment. Further up we find six large metal drawers with ball bearing mounted telescopic runners, an automatic locking system, non-slip rubber mats and aluminium dividers. The top of the left side racking consists of a large shelf with a non-slip rubber mat and aluminium dividers that can be moved easily from one position to another. The racking on the right of the van is also supported by a wheel arch cabinet, this time with a lift-and-rotate door that provides unrestricted access to the space inside. Above this are four metal cabinets with tilting transparent containers, providing a total of eighteen containers. The six largest ones are fitted with aluminium dividers to create a total of twenty-four small compartments, despite the fact that each container occupies only 16 cm in depth. Transparent drawers and containers are among Syncro’s best selling products. Made from PMMA, the same material used for aeroplane windows, they are extremely robust and long lasting, and their exclusive clear design lets users see instantly what is inside. Automatic locking buttons make them particularly practical to use. The limited depth of these containers also leaves plenty of floor space free in the middle of the load compartment. Of the many accessories available in the Syncro catalogue, the operator of this particular Jumpy chose to fit an aluminium cargo bar with two lashing straps to keep equipment secure during transport.
