A Doblò with Syncro racking for road maintenance
Everything in so little space? A mobile workshop in a Fiat Doblò
How do you go about turning a van into a mobile workshop? In brief, you need:
- a work surface – at least a small one – for carrying out maintenance, repairs, and adjustments
- equipment, spares and tools arranged securely and in order
- generators and/or compressors for operating electrical/pneumatic tools and devices
- lighting for adequate illumination at all times
- whatever special equipment is needed for the work in hand
The Fiat Doblò L2 H1 featured in the photos on this page meets all these criteria despite its small size. Thanks to Syncro’s extensive experience in van racking, and thanks also to the vast range of products in the Syncro Catalogue, our racking teams can install tailor-made solutions in any vehicle.
A Fiat Doblò for road maintenance
This Fiat Doblò is owned by a company that works in earth moving, excavation, the transport of demolition material and road surfacing. The customer asked us to fit out this compact vehicle for servicing road surfacing machines and emergency refuelling. With its loadspace lined and fitted with racking and accessories, this small van has become super-functional and fully autonomous in all logistic situations. Let’s take a closer look!
Customised lining for the Doblò
Van liners must always be tailored to the intended use of the vehicle. In this Doblò for road maintenance, for example, the floor is protected by a rubber-coated plywood floor liner. This surface offers the highest possible grip and is therefore the perfect solution for a vehicle in which lubricating oils and fuels are in daily use.
The walls are protected by strong, galvanized and painted steel panelling in an attractive grey finish.
The left of the Doblò: an all-in-one work & storage area
When space is short, it must be well organised. Every inch must be exploited to maximum effect using multi-purpose solutions, space-saving modules and concealed compartments. In this Doblò for servicing road surfacing machines almost all the racking is concentrated on the left.
- The single floor-level compartment is divided equally between a rear section equipped with a strap-type case transport kit and a front section with a frame housing an Ecoflow Delta 3 Pro power station, held in place by an additional polyester strap.
- The “storage” section is made up of two drawers with automatic latching mechanisms and two configurable shelves with non-slip mats and provision for vertical space dividers.
- The column nearest the bulkhead houses a compressor at the top. This is connected to a compressed air tank fixed to the top of the bulkhead. Under the compressor is a plain shelf.
- A pull-out vice bench extends from the racking’s rear-facing side panel.
A vice bench with support for the Doblò
A pull-out vice bench can provide an effective work surface even in a small van like the Doblò. In “closed” position, the bench takes up very little space. Once released, however, it can be easily extended from inside the racking to form a robust horizontal work surface. The bench itself is made of plywood and high-strength steel.
Syncro places an aluminium chequer-plate panel around the slot in the racking to protect it against accidental impact with the vice.
This bench also incorporates a stainless-steel support column with a telescopic inner section that effectively doubles stability and strength.
Autonomy for the road maintenance Doblò
Permitting fully autonomous on-site operations is one of the key requirements of any mobile workshop.
As mentioned above, this Doblò is equipped with an Ecoflow power station with battery and inverter for the supply of electrical energy, a compressor with a tank on the bulkhead and two reels, one for electrical cable and the other for compressed air hose.
Thanks to these accessories, the use of air and electrical power is not limited to the interior of the van and improvised extensions and connections for using power tools externally are not needed.
Accessories? Yes, please. Essentials for the complete functionality of the Doblò
Accessories are often essential to achieve the functionality desired by van operators.
This Fiat Doblò is equipped with:
- an LED spotlight, fixed to the underside of the roof near the left rear door, facing outwards to illuminate access to the vehicle
- two Syncroblock bars, installed just below roof level and equipped with clamps for securing long objects like spades and shovels (the innermost bar is also equipped with a sliding telescopic hook for the fuel dispensing hose
- a heavy-duty lashing strap for securing a large fuel tank to the bulkhead and two additional hook and strap sets for increasing the stability of the compressed air tank mounting on the bulkhead.
