On this page we present a comparison of two racking solutions in medium-large vans owned by service and technical assistance companies: an Opel Movano L2 H2 used to provide 24-hour assistance for beer tapping systems and a Fiat Ducato L2 H1 for industrial plant maintenance.
The requirements and the space available are similar, but the racking solutions, as always, are fully customised. Racking covers the two side walls in both vans while the bulkheads have been used only to install accessories. A great deal of attention has been paid to the liners in both vehicles, though with minor differences, as requested by the customers.
One of the first questions customers always ask our racking experts concerns body liners. How many surfaces do I really need to protect? There is no simple answer. It all depends on:
In the case of the Opel Movano, the owners decided to install a marble-look plywood floor liner and panels of the same material on the bottom section of the bulkhead. The walls were left unlined, except for the top part of the left side, which was protected by steel panelling. The same material was chosen to line the doors.
A similar choice was made for the Fiat Ducato: the floor liner is again in marble-look plywood, as are the panels used to line the entire bulkhead. This time, the side walls and doors are fully lined in steel panelling.
The final decision is, of course, up to the customer, but Syncro’s recommendation is clear: the more you line, the less is exposed to scratches or dents that can eventually lead to substantial repair costs and reduce the value of your vehicle.
Both customers are involved in servicing and technical assistance and therefore have to carry a large number of tools, spares and small parts with them to deal with mechanical emergencies that need to be resolved immediately. Let’s see how similar needs have been met by different racking systems:
Opel Movano: There are two compartments at floor level, the first partly enclosed by one of Syncro’s patented lift-and-rotate doors, the second with a strap-type case transport kit. Above are two columns containing a total of 9 metal drawers and a third column of four case trays. Further up again are four configurable shelves and, at the very top, the latest type of full-length top tray for 2025.
Fiat Ducato: This time the floor-level area consists of an open compartment with a lashing strap at the front and a second compartment equipped with a case transport kit consisting of an end plate, bar and lashing strap. The column nearest the back doors contains four shelves equipped to carry 16 removable plastic containers. The column at the front has a similar layout but only three shelves and 15 removable containers, this time complete with lids.
At the top is a full-length tray with an access door of the type made up to 2024.
Comparing the racking on the right of these two vans, we can clearly see the difference between an “all open” and an “all closed” design:
The most common accessory in both vans is the lashing strap, often combined with some kind of support. This is one of the most popular items among Syncro customers. It is also one of the most versatile and can be used to secure all kinds of cargo and tools.
The Movano:
The bulkhead is equipped with a length of milled bar with Airline holes, hooks and lashing strap at the bottom, and with a length of Syncroblock bar with metal hooks at the top.
The left-side racking is equipped with a Syncroblock bar with a rubber profile and lashing strap on the side panel and two lengths of Airline bar on the column fronts for use with hooks or other cargo retaining accessories.
The right-side racking has a third section of Airline bar towards the rear doors and two sections of Syncroblock bar with straps on the side panel near the sliding side door.
The Ducato:
The bulkhead is fitted with two lengths of Syncroblock bar, one at the bottom with two quick-release attachments and a lashing strap, the other at the top with three cable holders.
The left-side racking has a bar rack for carrying particularly long items, with two metal flanges and straps arranged at different heights up the side panel. Both floor-level compartments are also fitted with lashing straps.
The right-side racking has the same combination of accessories on both side panels, consisting of a metal pocket on the floor and two Syncroblock bars with rubber profiles and lashing straps further up.
