A Syncro racking system in a maintenance firm’s Fiat Scudo
The shape and size of your van obviously influences your choice of racking. The height and length of the cargo compartment determine the dimensions and the number of racking columns that can be installed. The contours of the side walls may also require racking to be offset at the back rather than of uniform depth. The presence of one or two sliding doors may also affect the floor area available to racking.
This page illustrates a racking solution that Syncro System installed in a Fiat Scudo L2 H1 owned by a company that maintains gas networks.
The vehicle in question has two sliding side doors, meaning that the walls on either side extend only for about half the length of the cargo compartment. Two solutions can be adopted in cases like this:
1. Confine racking to the free sections of side wall and perhaps compensate for the restriction by installing racking on the bulkhead too.
2. Install racking even at the side doors, arranging it to permit access from outside the van. In this Scudo, Syncro adopted the second solution, though the racking is confined to the left side only, leaving the right side free.
The Fiat Scudo’s custom lining system
Lining your van means thinking ahead and taking all necessary precautions to preserve its “health” for as long as possible.

The floor of this Fiat Scudo is protected by a marble-look plywood floor liner. Details make all the difference! Stainless-steel edge profiles at the doors prevent moisture and dirt from penetrating the plywood. Stainless-steel cups at the original anchor rings serve the same purpose and prevent the ingress of damp.
The van’s walls and doors are lined with steel panelling – the strongest of all the materials in the Syncro catalogue. Liners are also available in honeycomb polypropylene, aluminium chequer plate and raw aluminium.
Racking that faces partly inwards, partly outwards
Now we come to the racking itself, which is concentrated on the left side of this Fiat Scudo.
The section accessible from inside the van
This racking column consists of a floor-level compartment that is partially enclosed by one of Syncro’s patented, full-access doors, two case trays containing four metal cases, two drawers and two configurable shelves. The drawers and shelves come with non-slip mats and can also be equipped with metal space dividers or accessories like plastic trays. The racking side panel at the back of the van is equipped with a first aid kit and a fold-away bench with a metal vice.
The section accessible from outside the van
This column of racking consists of a large and convenient floor-level compartment equipped with a length of Syncroblock bar, locking knobs, straps and buckles for securing cargo. Further up are two drawers and a configurable shelf. The shape of the shelf at the top makes it accessible from both inside and outside the van.
The fold-away vice bench: a space-saving work surface
The vice bench in this Fiat Scudo is a Fortix fold-away model. When closed, it stands vertically, parallel to the side of the racking. Extending it is easy: just turn the locking lever at the side to fold the bench down. Descent is damped by gas springs and the bench automatically locks in place at the end of its travel. The bench is covered by a panel of aluminium chequer plate where the vice is attached. This useful accessory takes up very little space when closed but provides a stable work surface when open.
The right of the van and more: essential accessories
The right of this Fiat Scudo has been lined but left free apart from a few essential accessories:
- a fire extinguisher bracket located near the right-side sliding door so that it can be reached conveniently from both inside and outside the van
- a paper roll holder, always a useful accessory for basic hand and tool cleaning operations, complemented in this case by a soap dispenser and tank and tap handwash kit on the right rear door
- an inverter at the top of the wall, near a four-plug power socket
Van ventilation: when is it needed?
When do you need van a ventilation system? If you ever use your van to transport flammable or potentially explosive materials, of course, but also if regular air changes are needed to ensure the safety and comfort of users or to avoid damage to certain types of cargo.
This Scudo is fitted with a simple but effective way to ventilate the cargo compartment when the van is on the move. A pair of ventilation grilles have been installed, one in the right sliding door and the other in the floor.
