A Volkswagen Transporter for an industrial robot firm

Racking in a Volkswagen Transporter for installing robots

The company that asked us to transform this Volkswagen Transporter constructs, installs and maintains robotic systems for industrial plants. The van is an L1H1 model, so it is far from large. But with a custom-made racking system by Syncro System, the cargo compartment has become a well-equipped warehouse on wheels.

100% protection for the Transporter’s interior

Protecting the bodywork is the first step in any Syncro racking project, though customers do not always ask us to protect every part of the interior as did the owners of this VW Transporter.

The original floor is protected by a plywood floor liner with a marble-look surface. The bulkhead is covered by panels of the same material. The walls, doors and roof, on the other hand are lined with painted steel panels.

The left of the Transporter: a mobile warehouse

These photos show how even a medium size commercial vehicle can be converted into a great workshop on wheels. The left of this van is equipped with a wide range of containers and compartments for equipment, power and hand tools, spare parts and other items. Everything the operators need finds place in:

  • a floor-level compartment with a lift-up door
  • four metal drawers, each with a non-slip mat and movable dividers
  • two shelves
  • four pull-out trays that can contain up to eight metal component cases
  • sixteen pull-out transparent plastic containers for holding small items; thanks to the completely transparent plastic, users can see immediately what is inside without having to pull the container out; this not only saves valuable time but also eliminates the risk of running out of important supplies.

More storage and a small work bench

There is more storage on the right of the van in the form of an enclosed floor-level compartment, another four drawers, another eight pull-out transparent plastic containers and a top shelf. The rearward side panel of this racking is equipped with a fold-away vice bench complete with metal vice.

No load is too heavy with a Syncro access ramp

The most important feature of this Volkswagen Transporter for installing robotic systems is the aluminium ramp located at the rear door. This particular ramp has a load capacity of 400 kg. It is equipped with a gas spring for easy closing and a lateral pivot that allows the folded ramp to rotate for easy access to the van. Syncro System ramps are specially designed to facilitate the movement of even large, heavy items of machinery. They not only reduce the effort needed to load and unload equipment but, just as importantly, reduce the risk of operator injury too.
