A Transporter for repairing coffee machines

A space-saving racking solution in a Transporter for a coffee machine business

The key characteristic of this racking system is the large amount of free space afforded by the use of:

  • compact racking columns
  • recessed handles in the front of all storage elements
  • sideways-opening long drawers at the bulkhead

The Volkswagen Transporter T6 L2 H2 seen in the photos on this page is owned by a firm that sells, installs and services catering coffee machines. The work involved demands an extensive and instantly accessible supply of small to medium size tools and spare parts along with many items of generic ironmongery.

This requirement was fully satisfied by the Syncro System team who installed this racking solution, which provides a total of 77 transparent containers in addition to other kinds of storage element.

Let’s take a closer look.

A complete set of liners for the Transporter

The interior of this coffee machine firm’s Transporter is protected by a complete set of liners. The original floor is covered by a plywood floor liner with a marble-look surface while the walls, doors and even the underside of the roof are protected by panels of galvanised and painted steel.

The decision to protect all the interior surface of the van will undoubtedly extend its working life. The robust liners also provide secure anchorage for the racking and accessories. Doing without interior liners exposes your van to serious bodywork damage. If tools or items of equipment are dropped or accidentally fall, they can easily dent or scratch thin body panels, allowing damp to get under the paintwork. Sooner or later, damage of this kind inevitably leads to rust – the van owner’s number one enemy. Syncro dealers can cover your van’s wheel arches too and, depending on the model, can even install practical over-cab storage compartments. Syncro System liners come pre-shaped and pre-drilled for your model of van. They also boast unique strength and durability thanks to special stainless-steel trim pieces and advanced installation techniques.

How Syncro’s compact racking modules can save floor space in the middle of your van

The left of this Transporter is a great example of how the full length and height of a van’s side wall can be used without taking up too much valuable floor space. The racking on this side is made up of:

  • two adjacent columns of Multibox cabinets with two rows of large, removable, tilting transparent containers at the bottom and two rows of smaller containers at the top, providing a total of 42 storage elements
  • two floor-level compartments, the forward one equipped with a hook and strap lashing system

The right of the van is very similar in appearance, the only difference being that the containers in the four bottom rows are pull-out types with internal dividers. On this side of the van, the depth of the cabinets decreases towards the top of the cargo compartment, following the contours of the body while remaining perfectly aligned at the front.

Transparent containers: the perfect choice for a clean and orderly van

Transparency is the dominant feature of the racking system in this coffee machine firm’s Transporter. Syncro’s transparent containers are made entirely from PMMA, a super-strong see-through plastic that does not fade, yellow or crack with age. Transparent containers offer the obvious advantage that their contents can easily be seen without having to open the container first. This eliminates the risk of running out of essential spares, ensures orderly storage, and saves time too, helping you work far more efficiently.

An original solution for the Transporter’s bulkhead area

Though the Transporter L2 H2 is not a large van, the owners of this example wanted to install racking on the bulkhead too. Luckily, thanks to the clever design of Syncro racking, any request can be satisfied with a fully personalised solution! The configuration adopted here makes the best possible use of available space.

  • Three long drawers that open through the side door provide a high-capacity alternative to shelving. Syncro drawers are mounted on ball-bearing runners that allow them to open for their full length, offering easy access even to items at the back of the drawer.
  • A cabinet of seven case trays rests on the top of the drawers. The trays slope inwards to provide practical and secure storage for tool and component cases.

Improving your van’s functionality and carrying capacity

Once properly lined and fitted with racking, in theory your van is ready to go... But there are ways to make it an even more effective business partner.

1. For a start, you can add new racking elements at any time.

2. You can also ask Syncro to fit whatever accessories you need (for cleaning, carrying cargo, security, ventilation and lighting).

3. You can even turn your van into a fully autonomous workshop by fitting the cargo compartment with its own electrical wiring system and Ecoflow power station, and perhaps even a compressor or generator.

4. You can make full use of the roof too with one of Synco’s custom-made roof racks, pipe carriers or ladder slides.
