TALENTO: THE MEDIUM SIZE VAN FROM FIAT
The Fiat Talento is a medium size commercial built on the same platform as the Trafic, Vivaro and NV300. In terms of size, it lies between the Doblò and the Ducato and provides Fiat customers with an ample choice of models. The Talento boasts a modern design with all the characteristics needed to satisfy even the most demanding van users. It has an attractive, stylish exterior and a load compartment that is square in shape and ideal for carrying large amounts of cargo, installing racking systems, and for mixed solutions like that illustrated on this page.
A MOBILE WORKSHOP FOR INSTALLING AND SERVICING PLUMBING AND HEATING SYSTEMS
The operator of this Fiat Talento specialises in the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems. He needs to carry a large number of tools and spare parts in a secure and orderly manner and also has to load large items of equipment like air conditioners and boilers. Syncro’s technicians found a way to satisfy all these needs by fitting racking along one side of the van only, leaving most of the floor free, and by installing roof bars to exploit the top of the van as additional cargo space.
But let’s start from the beginning. The first stage in fitting out any van is to protect the body, as this prevents damage during daily operations and provides a suitable base for installing the racking. In this case, the Syncro team fitted a 12 mm thick resin-coated plywood floor liner, complete with metal edges and recesses for the original floor anchors. The wall between the cab and the load compartment was also protected with a bulkhead liner in resin-coated plywood like that used for the floor. Finally, the right wheel arch was covered with a galvanised steel and plywood liner, again 12 mm thick. Protection of the side walls and doors was entrusted to galvanised and painted steel panels, laser-cut to ensure a perfect match for the bodywork.
With the load compartment adequately protected, Syncro's installers went on to fit the racking as such, only along the van's left side wall, leaving almost the entire floor available for cargo as stated above.
The bottom of the racking consists of a wheel arch cabinet with a fully opening, lift-and-rotate door to provide easy access to the space over the wheel. Alongside this is a compartment for the user’s tool cases, which can be secured for the journey by means of a tool case securing system with a strap. At the back of the racking is a pull-out vice support with a 100 mm steel vice, complete with a rotating base and special pipe jaws. Above this is a drawer cabinet that holds a case tray with two plastic component cases with transparent lids, complete with internal trays. Over the case tray are three large metal drawers on ball-bearing runners, with non-slip mats, space dividers and an automatic system for keeping them shut. Alongside the drawer cabinet are two shelves, again with mats and dividers.
The two modules at the top of the racking are cabinets containing a total of 8 tilting, transparent containers. These extremely practical containers can carry large quantities of parts and, because they are completely transparent, allow you to see immediately exactly what is inside. The containers are also amazingly strong, since they are made from PMMA, the same material used to make aeroplane windows.
To improve productivity even further, the customer browsed through Syncro’s vast range of accessories and chose a spray can rack for the left door, a paper roll holder, a rail and strap for securing cargo to the bulkhead and an aluminium cable holder, also fitted at the bulkhead.
Last but not least, to exploit the carrying capacity of the van’s roof, the customer chose aluminium roof bars with load stops, amazingly quiet on the road thanks to Syncro’s exclusive Ultrasilent profile which virtually eliminates noise and vibration when the vehicle is travelling.
