The racking installation seen on this page is a good example of how a vehicle can be transformed into an effective working tool. Fitting out your van means turning it into a mobile workshop and a professional partner in your daily work. When a racking solution is well thought out and tailored to meet your needs, it maximise your van’s functionality and improves the quality of your work. In this case we are talking about a Renault Trafic L2 H1 used by a glazier to transport and install panes of glass and mirrors.
Here are the requirements expressed by the customer:
Let’s take a look at the solutions that Syncro System devised to these requirements.
There is one phase that can never be ignored in the design of a van racking solution: the installation of liners. It is always best to think of this first rather than later. Robust liners avoid so many problems, including dents and scratches in the original panelling which always lead to the ingress of moisture and the formation of rust.
The floor of this glazier’s Trafic L2 H1 is protected by a plywood floor liner with a marble-look surface. This non-slip material provides an excellent grip and also helps absorb impact from falling objects. What better surface could there be given the nature of the materials transported!
The walls and the upper sections of the doors are covered in by steel panelling and the bulkhead is protected by custom-made panels in marble-look plywood like the floor.
Due to the nature of the cargo to be carried in this van, its security cannot be entrusted to lashing straps alone. Syncro therefore equipped this Trafic with cargo bars, a great solution for transporting large panes of glass and mirrors with the certainty of getting them to their destination intact and unscratched.
Airline cargo bars are a unique Syncro product. They are made from lightweight aluminium, are milled at the side and have a rubber covering on both narrow sides to protect the cargo that rests against them.
To hold them in place inside the vehicle, Syncro installs two identically milled rails, one on a ceiling cross-member and one on the floor. The cargo bars can then be fixed in place between these rails. The bars can also be moved to whatever position is most convenient along the rails.
The racking on the left of this glazier’s Trafic consists of:
The racking does not occupy the full length of the wall, but the presence of the top tray and a Syncroblock bar with lashing strap on the exposed section of wall transforms the space at the front of the van into useful storage for panes of glass and mirrors, which can be held in place by the cargo bars.
The right side of the van is equipped with a compartment with a lift-and-rotate door over the wheel arch. This can be used as a base for panes of glass and mirrors, which can be held securely in place by the lashing strap attached to the Syncroblock bar higher up the wall. The support surface is again made of marble-look plywood, with sheet metal profiles around the edge to provide a minimum of containment.
Carefully chosen accessories significantly improve the operational efficiency of any van. In this glazier’s Trafic, the bulkhead has been left free apart from a Syncroblock bar with hooks and lashing straps. Like many Syncro cargo accessories, lashing straps can hold objects of all shapes and sizes, drastically reducing unwanted movement on the road.
Syncroblock bar is an amazingly versatile accessory. It is available in many different lengths and can be combined with a vast range of hooks and other items. Another length of Syncroblock bar can be seen on the rearward-facing side panel of the left side racking, equipped with a row of press-fit tool clips. This is a great solution for carrying tools like hammers, pliers, screwdrivers and the like in a neat and easily accessible manner.
The Trafic is also fitted with a metal storage pocket and two spray can racks in the remaining spaces at floor level where they can be used to full effect.
Of course, the van also had to have a paper roll holder, a handwash kit and a soap dispenser, all of which appear in the list of accessories most popular with Syncro customers!
