Peugeot Boxer equipped by Syncro for servicing compressors

PEUGEOT BOXER: A BIG VAN AND AN IDEAL MOBILE WORKSHOP

The Boxer is the largest van in the Peugeot range. It has been made in the company’s Val di Sangro plant since 1981. The second series was introduced in 1993 and the current series (the third) in 2006. The Boxer is marketed all over the world in various versions and with different levels of equipment, and has consistently proved a popular choice with customers. Over 4.5 million units have been sold. The Syncro team is generally asked to work on the closed body version, in which the load compartment is particularly square in shape and therefore ideal for carrying cargo and for installing the racking needed to convert the van into a mobile workshop.

AN EFFICIENT MOBILE WORKSHOP FOR INSTALLING AND SERVICING AIR COMPRESSORS

The company that owns this Boxer specialises in air compressors, installing them at customers’ premises and handling their subsequent maintenance and repair. All the work has to be carried out in the field, so what could be better than a van fitted out by Syncro’s racking experts to make the job more efficient, to improve quality standards and to boost customer satisfaction too. The first step in the preparation of this Boxer was the installation of floor and wall liners to protect the body. Like all other vans, the Boxer comes with virtually no protection against sliding and falling cargo. Over the years, impacts of this kind can lead to serious damage to the bodywork. Syncro’s installation team first fitted a floor liner in resin-coated plywood, complete with steel edging at the doors and recessed cups for the original cargo anchors. This liner also forms a perfectly flat floor for loading cargo and provides a rigid surface for installing racking. The van’s side walls were then protected with tough but lightweight honeycomb plastic panels, laser cut to ensure a perfect match for the shape of the bodywork. Moving on to the racking itself, on the left side we can see a wheel arch cabinet with a parallelogram action door and another compartment for tool cases, complete with a case retaining strap. There is also a lockable cabinet with shelves inside. Over the wheel arch cabinet we find two drawer units with large metal drawers, all mounted on telescopic runners and complete with non-slip mats, aluminium space dividers and handles with an automatic device for keeping them closed. Alongside the drawer cabinets are two plain shelves, enclosed by fully opening, lift-and-rotate doors. Above these are five shelves with dividers and mats and, at the very top, a full length tray, a long and narrow container with a door at the back for carrying long items like pipes and cable channels. The racking on the right side wall consists of two wheel arch cabinets at the bottom, one open and one closed by a parallelogram action door. Over these are five steel drawers and two case trays containing four component cases with transparent lids. Above the drawer cabinets are seven shelves with mats and dividers and another cabinet holding pull-out transparent containers, one of Syncro’s best-selling products. The racking at the bulkhead consists of an open cabinet at the base, and a cabinet of four metal drawers above it. Over this again is a metal locker with a key lock. The bulkhead racking is completed by three shelves with space dividers. The owner of this Boxer found great inspiration in Syncro’s accessories catalogue! The rear door is fitted with two steel hooks on an aluminium rail complete with strap and buckle. The back of the left side racking has been fitted with a rack for holding long items like bars and posts. To secure cargo on the floor the customer chose two recessed aluminium rails with hooks. Two rail and strap systems are fitted at the side door, along with a paper roll holder, a vice support with a rotating steel vice and a cabinet of tilting transparent containers. Five LED ceiling lights ensure that the load compartment is brightly lit. The van user also needs compressed air for his own work, so to satisfy this need the Syncro team fitted a powerful but compact oil-free compressor, which can be powered either from the mains at the work site or by a powerful inverter, itself powered by two gel batteries. Thanks to the mobile workshop seen in this Peugeot Boxer, the owner's work of installing and servicing compressors and compressed air systems has become quicker, safer and more efficient. Another success story for Syncro System - the racking specialists!
