An Iveco Daily for an earth moving machinery firm

The endless ways Syncro can turn a van into a mobile workshop

The number of possible van racking layouts is simply endless, as indeed is the number of mobile workshop variations that can be installed in the same van.

The difference between a simple racking system and a mobile workshop essentially lies in the complexity of the configuration and in the greater number of functions the vehicle is required to perform.

As a rule, all mobile workshops have:

  • ample storage for tools and spares
  • a small or large workbench served by accessories, tool storage and adequate lighting
  • equipment that guarantees autonomy under all operating conditions

An Iveco Daily for servicing earth moving machines

This page illustrates a medium-sized Iveco Daily L2 H2 transformed into a mobile workshop for a company that sells and services earth moving machines.

The solution designed by Syncro System’s racking experts satisfies all three of the criteria listed above and covers all three interior walls.

The side walls have been configured as the van’s warehouse area, with secure and orderly storage for equipment and materials while the bulkhead is laid out as a work area complete with a workbench and everything necessary for complete operational autonomy. Let’s take a look inside.

Liners: a solid basis for racking

Omit to install robust interior liners and you’re likely to find yourself faced with expensive body repairs quite soon!

To extend your van’s working life, Syncro System racking teams always recommend installing custom-made floor, wall, door, bulkhead, and even roof and wheel arch liners.

The Iveco Daily seen on this page is fitted with a two-layer floor liner comprising a plywood bottom layer and an aluminium tread plate top layer. Stainless-steel profiles protect the liner panels at all exposed edges, preventing the ingress of dirt and damp.

For the doors and side walls, the customer requested steel panelling – the strongest material available for normal purposes and the most resistant in the event of fierce braking or a possible collision.

The Syncro racking on the left of the Iveco Daily

Both sides of this Daily serve as storage for tools, equipment, spares and accessories, but the left and right are configured in different ways. The racking on the left consists of:

The forward section of side wall forms part of the work area, in conjunction with the bulkhead, as we shall see below.

Order and practicality on the right of the Iveco Daily

Syncro’s experts designed the racking on the right to achieve two simple but fundamental objectives:

1. to maintain order inside the van

2. to keep everything readily to hand

How was this achieved? By installing a large, enclosed floor-level compartment, eight drawers and four full-length configurable shelves.

Both the shelves and the drawers can be customized as needed to keep everything in perfect order. The shelves can be equipped with space dividers to form separate compartments and avoid jumbling up different items. The drawers can be equipped with dividers or plastic trays of various sizes for carrying spares or assorted small parts.

A custom-made work area on the Daily’s bulkhead

The bulkhead area, with its easy access through the side door, is configured as the Daily’s workshop area. The Syncro team installed an L-shaped work bench covering the entire bulkhead and the forward section of the left wall. The work surface is made from marble-look plywood.

The walls above and below the bench are equipped with a series of important accessories: a compressed air hose reel for powering pneumatic tools, a multi-socket, an inverter, two lengths of Syncroblock bar with lashing straps and a compressed air tank fed by a compact but powerful compressor-generator combo.

The Syncroblock bars and their cargo retaining accessories turn the workbench into a multi-functional space by allowing it to support bulky cargo too.

The worktop is partly supported by a set of metal case trays that can be accessed from outside the vehicle.

A van’s functionality depends on its accessories too

The way in which everything is combined in the Daily’s work area demonstrates just how important accessories can be in maximising functionality.

This van is equipped with:

on the left side

  • a hose reel for delivering the compressed air produced by the combo at the bulkhead outside the vehicle

on the right side

  • a cable reel that supplies electrical power in the same way, and is also connected to the compressor-generator combo
  • a fire extinguisher bracket at the bottom

on the rear doors

  • on the left, a complete cleaning system consisting of a handwash kit with water tank and tap, a soap dispenser and a paper roll holder
  • on the right, two practical cable holders.
