Local Civil Protection Units use their vans for two main purposes: to carry prevention and emergency equipment and, of course, to transport response teams when needed! Civil Protection Units are staffed by volunteers. Members are trained to prevent, monitor, manage and recover from critical events like natural disasters, accidents or health emergencies.
The van illustrated on this page is a Ford Transit L3 H2 Crew Cab, with a cab large enough to transport a team of responders in comfort, and a cargo compartment big enough to carry all their equipment.
Let’s take a look.
A van just received from a dealer is immaculate – no dents or scratches and an uncluttered cargo compartment. But how long will that last?
Just a few minutes’ use can lead to damage, so it’s essential to get liners installed before you even think of using your new van! And to make the most of available space and avoid cluttering up the interior, you need racking and accessories that are carefully designed for your line of work.
In this Ford Transit, the original metal floor is covered with a plywood floor liner with a marble-look surface and protective steel profiles at all exposed edges. The walls are completely lined with super-strong steel panelling. The wheel arches have been left uncovered, but that on the right is hidden and therefore partly protected by a low shelf. Syncro System can provide liners for the doors, roof and bulkhead too, of course. Look here for other lining solutions for the Transit.
The only real racking installed on this Civil Protection Unit’s Ford Transit is located on the bulkhead. It is a simple configuration, consisting only of two side panels and two configurable shelves with non-slip mats and the option of adding internal dividers to form separate compartments. The floor-level compartment is equipped with a lashing strap stretched between two hooks. The strap can be adjusted to secure cargo of any shape and size.
The shelves can be used to carry items of personal protective equipment like helmets, gloves and goggles, or torches, ropes, metal cutters and other tools. The floor-level compartment can accommodate larger items like food ration boxes or rescue packs.
If you have to carry particularly bulky equipment, the practical solution that Syncro recommends is to install cargo retaining accessories at strategic locations around the van to secure any type of cargo as needed.
This Transit is fitted with:
In addition to the sections of SyncroBlock bar just mentioned, other accessories have been added to make this Transit super-functional in satisfying the needs of the Civil Protection Unit that will use it. In particular, the cargo retaining accessories also include two fire extinguisher brackets near the rear doors (one on the left and one on the right), a metal jerry can holder, and a bar rack with strap, the last two on the floor to the left of the bulkhead.
There is no shortage of cleaning accessories either. The van has a handwash kit on the left rear door and a paper roll holder nearby, on the left side just under the roof.
Working in emergency situations often means working with no mains power and working for extended periods of time without being able to return to base.
To overcome some of the problems associated with situations like this, Syncro has installed an Ecoflow power station in this Transit – you can see it on the right of the top shelf. This unit incorporates a powerful battery, a charger and an inverter and is connected to two multi-sockets via a dedicated wiring loom. One of the power strips is located on the right-hand rear door pillar, the other behind the rear seats in the cab where it is perfectly placed for charging electronic devices or using electrical equipment.
The art of racking requires imagination and a spirit of adaptation as well as sound technical knowledge and problem-solving skills.
With over 100,000 vans transformed since 1996, Syncro racking centres know how to make use of every available inch of space, often by adopting unique or never-before-seen solutions.
One of the special features of the equipment installed in this Transit for a Civil Protection Unit is the cabinet of MultiBox pull-out transparent containers fixed to the bulkhead above the rear seats in the cab. This cabinet does not get in the way as it is located well above the tops of the seats, while still being low enough for passengers to have easy access to the items contained in it.
Whatever type of racking system you have imagined for your van, and regardless of the type of work you do, Syncro System is always ready to take up the challenge and propose a tailor-made solution for you!
