A Ford Transit L3 H3 for road maintenance

A Syncro racking solution in a Transit for road maintenance

Robustness and adaptability are the two most important characteristics of any van used for road maintenance, demolition and environmental reclamation. The logistics of this type of work are particularly challenging, so it is essential for the vehicle to be efficient and effective both as a warehouse and as a workshop.

The photos on this page illustrate a Ford Transit L3 H3 that Syncro lined and equipped to cope with this type of activity.

As usual, nothing was left to chance. The liners are both tough and easy to clean while the racking is installed in such a way as to leave plenty of space in the back of the van for carrying pallets and other materials. The racking is concentrated towards the front of the cargo compartment, where it occupies both side walls and part of the bulkhead. Let’s examine the parts of this transformation one at a time!

The Transit’s tough, washable liners

Our look at this Transit racking solution for road maintenance starts with the liners. Given the situations in which this van is going to be used, protecting the interior against damage caused by normal wear and tear and accidents involving tools falling or being dropped was particularly important.

The floor of this Transit L3 H3 is covered by a two-layer floor liner made from a top layer of aluminium tread plate and a bottom layer of birch plywood. The relief pattern of the aluminium surface offers excellent grip but can also be washed and dried easily. The walls and top sections of the doors are covered with custom-made aluminium panels – the lightest metal panels available from Syncro. The aluminium sheet from which these liners are made offers excellent strength even in the event of a collision or fierce braking.

Storage and accessories on the left of the Transit

The left of the Transit is equipped with shelves and drawers to form a smart and extremely functional storage section.

  • There are three floor-level compartments, all configured differently. The one nearest the rear is equipped with a patented lift-and-rotate door which effectively delimits the space inside without closing it off entirely and folds down to allow easy and unrestricted access. The compartment in the middle is equipped with a case transport kit consisting of hooks, lashing strap and end plate. The compartment towards the front of the van houses the back of the large tank that is installed at the bulkhead.
  • Further up, the first racking column houses seven metal drawers with non-slip mats and internal dividers and a simple shelf. The central column provides four configurable shelves and the innermost column another three.
  • Closing all columns at the top is a full-length tray with a fold-down door at the rear.

Making the Transit autonomous

The equipment on the right of the Transit is fundamental for the van’s autonomy when working at remote sites.

The racking consists of a floor-level compartment partly enclosed by a fixed bottom profile and two shelves.

The first is an open shelf fitted with a marble-look plywood worktop. This houses an Ecoflow power station that combines an inverter, battery charger and lithium battery and can be used in place thanks to a special cutout made in the side panel at the power sockets. The second is a configurable shelf, large enough to accommodate even bulky packages. The racking on this side is completed by a robust top cover on which a compressor is installed.

A “special” racking solution for the Transit’s bulkhead

The space at the bulkhead is used to accommodate a large, stainless-steel tank that is ideal for carrying diesel or petrol fuels.

This item of equipment is secured to the floor at the sliding door and all necessary precautions have been taken to minimise the risks associated with the transport of flammable liquids.

Aluminium profiles fixed to the bulkhead itself support a handwash kit comprising a water tank with tap and a paper roll holder.

Other accessories that make this Transit a great mobile workshop

A racking solution for road maintenance can only be fully functional if all the necessary accessories are included. This road maintenance firm’s Transit is equipped with:

On the left wall -> a length of Syncroblock slider bar with four movable telescopic hooks.

On the right wall -> another length of Syncroblock bar with hooks and a cable reel.

On the roof cross-members -> hook and strap lashing systems – an excellent way to carry spades, shovels and similar items without cluttering up the floor – and LED tube lights.
