Lining your van to protect it

You can’t get a (much) bigger van than this!

In this L4 H3 configuration, the Ford Transit Jumbo is one of the largest vans on the market. This type of vehicle is often used to:

  • transport large, bulky or heavy cargo
  • transport household appliances and furniture as part of a house move, reducing the number of trips required and optimising time and resources
  • install fully equipped mobile workshops with a large amount of storage space, large work surfaces and bulky auxiliary equipment

Whatever the purpose, however, one requirement never changes... you always need to line the interior if you want to protect your van!

Tailor-made liners for the Ford Transit Jumbo

Lining the interior of your van gives you added protection, comfort and safety, as well as enhancing the appearance of the loadspace. The owners of this Ford Transit Jumbo requested an almost complete set of liners:

  • an aluminium tread plate floor liner
  • polypropylene wall panelling
  • wheel arch covers in a combination of steel and chequer plate aluminium

Floor liners: the choice for the Transit and the alternatives

The floor liner in the Transit seen here is a two-layer type with a total thickness of 12.8 mm, combining a birch plywood bottom layer with a top layer in aluminium tread plate. This offers maximum strength plus the good looks and easy cleaning of aluminium tread plate. Syncro uses a hard, annealed aluminium alloy to ensure greater mechanical strength than raw aluminium, making this type of liner perfect for transporting heavy loads. The relief pattern ensures an excellent non-slip surface for maximum user safety.

The Syncro catalogue also offers floor liners in other materials:

  • 12 mm thick plywood: this material consists of multiple birch plies bonded together using non-hygroscopic phenolic adhesives; the top and bottom surfaces are then coated with either marble-look resin or a special type of plastic that forms what can be defined as a rubber-coated finish
  • 2 mm thick aluminium tread plate with a 1.8 mm relief pattern that forms a high-grip, moisture-proof surface.

The Syncro technique for installing floor liners

First, the liner panels are pre-cut and pre-drilled to fit the specific model of van, so that installation is both rapid and precise. Once lined, the van’s original floor is safe from infiltration and damage by both liquids and solids. The sides are sealed with silicone and the exposed edges of the plywood at the doors are enclosed in stainless-steel profiles. In addition to preventing the ingress of moisture, these profiles also protect the edges against impact damage during loading and unloading.

Wall panelling: the choice for the Transit and the alternatives

The walls of this Transit Jumbo are protected with custom-made panels of honeycomb polypropylene. This particularly lightweight plastic material is resistant to chemicals and atmospheric agents, water-repellent and easy to clean, making it extremely hygienic.

Syncro also offers wall lining panels in other materials:

  • electrogalvanised and painted steel for maximum strength
  • smooth or chequer plate aluminium for a light and bright interior

Important details: wheel arch covers

In this case, the customer asked Syncro System to line not just the entire floor and walls of the Transit, but the wheel arches too, since these protrude into the loadspace and are therefore at risk of suffering dents and scratches during loading and unloading if no racking is installed around them.

The upper surfaces of the wheel arches are covered with 2 mm thick aluminised steel while the vertical surfaces are covered in chequer plate aluminium panels.

Protecting the sills to prevent wear

A van’s sills are another point at risk of wear and damage. This Transit has therefore been fitted with stainless-steel footplates with relief perforations for superior grip and robust support for users climbing into and out of the van.
