A FORD TRANSIT FOR A FIRE EXTINGUISHER SERVICE

Racking for servicing fire extinguishers in a Transit L3 H2

Safely serving the needs of safety, with Syncro

For anybody working in the field of safety, a reliable and efficient van is an essential ally. Syncro System designed the racking system described on this page for a company that inspects, refills and services fire extinguishers in companies, public buildings and private homes.

The first request the customer made for this van was to have a mobile workspace where tidiness and practicality served the needs of functionality and safety. Everything had to be perfectly functional, not just in daily operations but in emergencies too. These were the objectives the Syncro team kept in mind when designing the completely tailor-made racking system for this 2014 MY Ford Transit L3 H2. Let’s take a closer look!

Use of space in the Transit for a fire extinguisher service

Racking has been installed on both sides of this Transit. Part of the left wall is set up as a work area, while the bulkhead is equipped with a pull-out slide for supporting a special piece of equipment owned by the customer. Enough space nevertheless remains in the centre of the van to allow easy movement. The area forward of the workbench is left free and equipped with lashing systems for transporting bulky equipment and materials.

LED tube lights on the roof cross-members ensure excellent illumination throughout the cargo compartment.

Custom liners for the Transit

As usual, Syncro System technicians lined the interior of the van body to protect it against dents and scratches before installing the racking as such.

The floor is protected by a plywood floor liner with a marble-look surface and stainless-steel edge profiles.

The panels covering the walls and doors are made of galvanised and grey-painted steel sheet.

A well-equipped work area in the Transit for servicing fire extinguishers

The left of this Transit for servicing fire extinguishers is configured in a hybrid manner: one third is intended as a work area, one third as storage for bulky items, and one third as a mobile warehouse.

The area closest to the rear doors is equipped with:

  • a marble-look plywood workbench with raised back and side profiles, fitted with an item of equipment belonging to the customer;
  • three metal drawers with non-slip mats and internal dividers and a floor-level compartment with a lift-up door;
  • a fold-away vice bench complete with a metal vice.

In the central area we have:

  • two ROTM metal rails with heavy-duty lashing straps. A panel of aluminium tread plate provides protection for the plywood floor liner beneath. This area is intended for transporting the gas cylinders used for refilling fire extinguishers.

The area of wall nearest the front of the van is equipped with:

Tailor-made autonomy for the Transit

The design of Syncro racking permits the creation of fully customised configurations. In this Transit for servicing fire extinguishers, the distribution system for electrical power and compressed air has been routed in a way that avoids cluttering up the cargo area. A power socket and a compressed air connector have been integrated into the left-hand rear door pillar to permit the use of tools and equipment outside the van. Additional power sockets are located near the sliding side door.

The right of the Transit: custom storage and fire extinguisher transport

The racking on the right of the Transit is designed to facilitate the transport of the customer’s special equipment.

The floor-level compartment with a patented lift-and-rotate door can accommodate various items. Just above it are three special sloping stainless-steel shelves for transporting fire extinguishers, complete with special retaining systems for holding the fire-fighting devices in place while the vehicle is in motion.

Then there are four configurable shelves, including one at floor level, a full-length top tray with an access door at the rear, and a tall storage compartment with lashing straps. A tailor-made bracket, for use with special equipment belonging to the customer, is fixed to the floor near the rear doors, next to the racking side panel.

Syncro’s multi-purpose slide on the Transit’s bulkhead

Near the bulkhead of the Ford Transit, the Syncro team has installed a pull-out slide for carrying a powder filling machine. This machine is used for the scheduled maintenance of portable, trolley-mounted and fixed fire extinguishers. The base of this equipment is rigidly fixed to the slide for maximum stability during use.
