A Sprinter L2 H2 for a roadside assistance service
Objective: an autonomous mobile workshop

To design a van racking system, we first establish – in conjunction with you the customer – what exactly your objective is. We then translate your needs into a tailor-made configuration of racking and accessories capable of satisfying your requests, improving your efficiency and making your work easier.
The owner of the van described here is a single-brand dealership of cars and light commercial vehicles. The van is intended to provide after-sales service and roadside assistance to customers.
In short, this Mercedes Sprinter L2 H2, brought to Syncro for an initial consultation, had to be turned into a mobile workshop for servicing and repairing motor vehicles.
Objective: to transform the van into an autonomous mobile workshop
Needs: a range of containers for keeping large and small tools, spare parts and sundries in perfect order, a well-equipped workbench, and equipment for giving the van an autonomous energy supply.
The finished installation is described below.
Liners: not just for looking good
Lining the floor and walls of your van is essential if you want to protect its bodywork against wear, scratches and dents. Liners also provide secure support for racking and accessories. And, of course, they make the inside of your van far more attractive.
All these functions can be seen clearly in this Sprinter:
- A marble-look plywood floor liner reinforces the original floor and provides an even, walkable surface. The floor liner has been routed lengthwise to recess two Airline profile rails. This provides stable attachment points for lashing straps and allows cargo to be transported securely in the middle of the van.
- The bulkhead is protected by panels of marble-look plywood just like the floor. The racking and accessories that make up the van’s work area are therefore fixed to a rigid base.
- The doors and walls are lined with panels of galvanised and painted steel.
Other lining solutions for the Sprinter
The workshop warehouse on the Sprinter’s left wall
A travelling warehouse for tools, spares and consumables has been installed on the Sprinter’s two side walls.
On the left of the van, the floor-level compartment over the wheel arch is partly enclosed by a bottom profile. The second floor-level compartment is equipped with a strap-type case transport kit. The third compartment at floor level is taller but narrower and has a Syncroblock bar with a lashing strap at the back.
The middle section of racking consists of 11 metal drawers of different sizes, all with non-slip bottom mats and internal dividers. Also present is one pull-out case tray with a release button at the front.
The top section consists of six large shelves, again with mats and dividers, and with raised rear panels too.
The workshop warehouse on the Sprinter’s right wall
Space on the right of the van is limited by the presence of the sliding door, but every available inch has been used. The single large compartment at floor level provides useful storage thanks to the bottom profile that partly encloses it. Above this are 9 drawers and three case trays with two metal cases and one transparent plastic Galaxy case. The column on this side of the van is completed by four shelves. The first two are of the open type and specially made to accommodate 6 large and 12 small removable plastic containers.
The top two are configurable shelves with mats and dividers.
The Sprinter’s workshop area
The bulkhead of this Sprinter for roadside assistance has been transformed into a workshop area complete with a plywood workbench with a metal vice and two drawers for frequently used tools.
A horizontal profile with Airline holes and a lashing strap has been added under the drawers.
The large, open compartment at floor level is equipped with a sealed tray for carrying cans of oil and fuel. The tray is made from welded stainless steel and has a grille in the bottom to keep the cans out of any spilled oil. A Syncroblock bar fixed to the bulkhead and equipped with a lashing strap and locking knob holds the cans in place during transport.
The functionality of this area has been further enhanced by adding two more Syncroblock bars with straps, one on the side of the workbench facing the sliding door and the other on the bulkhead over the bench. Finally, a paper roll holder has been installed at the very top of the bulkhead.
Autonomy for the Sprinter
Basic autonomy for operating power tools was one of the requirements expressed by the owner of this van. That is why a portable compressor has been installed in the space between the workbench and the left side wall. The compressor is connected to a hose reel at the van’s rear doors to permit compressed air to be supplied even some distance from the van.
There’s always room for accessories!
Whether you want to install them immediately or wait and see what you need first, room for accessories can always be found.
Thanks to the clever design of Syncro van equipment, accessories can be fixed to any supporting surface: walls, liners and racking side panels.
In addition to the accessories already described, this Sprinter is fitted with a fire extinguisher bracket, two cable holders, a storage pocket and four LED tube lights under the roof.
