A Mercedes Sprinter for a civil and industrial construction firm

5 tips for a perfect racking system

They say there’s no such thing as perfection. But if your van is equipped just as you want it and meets all your needs easily, you’ll be pretty close!

Here are a few practical tips from Syncro’s van racking experts for getting the most out of your racking:

1. Start by listing your real needs.

Write a list of the jobs you do most often and all the tools and materials you really can’t do without.

2. Make full use of all available space.

You should try to use every inch of the cargo compartment (and more besides). Make use of the modular design of Syncro racking to optimise the layout of racking and accessories.

3. Don’t forget safety.

Your van will be travelling on public roads, so your safety and that of other road users is paramount. Every single item carried must be secured or contained safely.

4. The primary objective is to help your work faster and easier.

Prioritise the material and equipment you carry. The items you use most often should be placed in the most practical and accessible places. Those you use only occasionally can be stored at the bottom, at the top or at the back of the racking.

5. Think about the future.

Even if your system is perfect for today, your needs could change tomorrow. Syncro racking systems can be expanded and components moved or replaced as needed. If you need to change your configuration, just contact the experts at Syncro. The answer will be simpler than you think.

Syncro’s racking solution for a civil and industrial construction firm’s Sprinter

The photos of the racking solution described today were taken in a Mercedes Sprinter owned by a company that works in the civil and industrial construction sector.

The vehicle came to Syncro with some liner panels already installed by another supplier. Our workshop added a plywood floor liner with a marble-look surface, complete with stainless-steel edge protectors and anchor ring cups.

Racking has been installed on both sides of the van while the bulkhead has been turned into a work area.

Let’s take a closer look!

Open and enclosed storage on the left of the Sprinter

The left of Sprinter provides mainly open storage and includes:

  • an open floor-level compartment with a Syncroblock bar and hook and strap lashing system installed over the wheel arch
  • a second, particularly tall floor-level compartment, again with Syncroblock bar, hooks and straps
  • three metal drawers with non-slip mats and internal dividers (the only enclosed storage on this side of the van)
  • seven configurable shelves
  • a full-length top tray with an asymmetric access door

The racking on this side of the van is complemented by a few essential accessories: a paper roll holder, an electric cable reel and a pre-assembled electrical power panel.

Shelves and a vice bench on the right of the Sprinter

The right of this building firm’s Sprinter also serves as a mobile warehouse. The floor-level compartment is partly enclosed by a patented lift-and-rotate door. Over this are an open shelf with a strap-type case transport kit and five configurable shelves.

The rear-facing side panel is equipped with a fold-away vice bench with integrated support. This accessory takes up very little floor space when closed, is quick and easy to extend, and provides a robust work surface for vice work and minor repairs.

The bulkhead: the perfect place for a workshop corner

Another workbench has been installed on the bulkhead, complementing the fold-away vice bench at the back of the van.

This custom-made bench consists of a panel of marble-look plywood mounted on a dedicated aluminium frame.

The resulting structure is particularly robust, large enough for the most demanding jobs, and suitable for use with different tools and equipment.

The worktop can also be used to carry cargo, and a Syncroblock bar with lashing strap has been added to the bulkhead behind the bench for this purpose.

Under the bench is a slide on which the customer plans to install his own generator. A grab handle has been attached to the frame upright to make climbing into the van safer and easier.

This work area is equipped with cabling and electrical power outlets too.

The entire cargo compartment is well lit thanks to LED tube lights installed on the roof cross-members at 45° to conserve head space.
