How much space does a racking system take up? Only as much as it needs to! The rest is always left free for working or carrying cargo.
This rule applies to all vans, because every Syncro racking solution is customised to meet the needs of the individual customer.
The photos on this page show a Mercedes Sprinter L2 H1 owned by an electrician.
Complying with his requests, we concentrated the racking on the left side of the van, leaving the right side and sliding door completely free. We then fitted cargo retaining accessories on the bulkhead to make it more functional without taking up valuable space. Let’s take a closer look.
Lining the interior of your van is not just a question of appearance. Liners play a strategic role in any racking system and protect your van’s bodywork against damage deriving from the daily use of tools, equipment and materials, all of which can fall and strike the floor, doors or walls.
This electrician’s Mercedes Sprinter L2 H1 is fitted with a plywood floor liner with a marble-look surface – an excellent choice of material as it is not only highly resistant to mechanical stress but is also lightweight and does not lose its shape. The doors and walls are lined with steel panels. These are specially shaped and drilled at Syncro’s works for each model of van.
Let’s look at the racking on the left of this Sprinter.
We can see a pull-out vice bench projecting from the rear-facing side panel in this Sprinter L2 H1. Amazingly easy to use and superbly functional, this accessory slides neatly between two elements of racking and therefore occupies very little space when not needed. The bench then slides out easily to provide a stable work surface for the vice and for small maintenance jobs. To protect the side of the racking against knocks when the bench is closed, Syncro always covers the area around the bench slot with a panel of aluminium checker plate.
Just above, on the same side, is a bar rack with a lashing strap. This provides an extremely practical and perfectly safe way to carry long objects and tools with points or sharp edges, which could otherwise create a hazard. The bottom front of the racking has been fitted with sections of milled rail with hooks and straps to allow cargo and equipment to be carried securely on the floor. The whole interior of the van is efficiently illuminated by a set of LED tube lights under the roof. These low-consumption, high-power lights are positioned so that they do not reduce headroom and do not risk being struck by cargo or by the van’s users.
The bulkhead serves various purposes in addition to separating the cargo compartment from the cab: it forms a protective barrier between the two areas, serves as acoustic and thermal insulation and helps optimise space. It also serves as the cargo compartment’s third wall and can therefore be used to install racking and accessories.
Many Syncro customers opt for the solution seen in this Sprinter for installing electrical systems: no racking but a selection of useful cargo retaining accessories. These accessories help keep your van tidy, leaving you more room to move around, and ensuring greater safety on the road.
In this particular Sprinter, the bulkhead is equipped with two Syncroblock slider bars, installed in parallel. The bottom one is fitted with hooks and straps for securing cargo of any shape and size, the top one with two cable holders.
Electricians nearly always ask us fit a roof rack. Roof racks are essential if you need to transport long objects like ladders, or use roof walkways or other roof accessories. They avoid cluttering up the inside of your van, make loading and unloading easier and keep everything tidy too.
The roof of this Sprinter is equipped with a complete roof rack consisting of cross bars, side fences, a rear loading roller and an Ultrasilent rubber profile under the front cross bar to reduce noise and vibration on the road.
