A Ducato for servicing overhead platforms

A customised racking solution in a Ducato for servicing overhead platforms and cranes

The company that commissioned the racking system seen in these photos hires, sells and services overhead platforms, cranes and forklifts. This Fiat Ducato L3H2 fitted out by Syncro System serves as a spares store and mobile workshop for technicians who install and service this type of lifting equipment. The project team began by fitting interior liners before installing racking and a number of accessories on all three inside walls. Let’s take a closer look.

Bodywork protection: the secret of an extended life

Wear, dents and damp are the three sworn enemies of van bodywork. To stop them having a serious impact on the structure and working life of your van, it is essential to ask Syncro System to fit custom-made liners to suit the intended use of the vehicle and the arrangement of racking.

This Ducato Fiat L3H2 is fitted with a plywood floor liner with a marble-look surface and galvanised and painted panelling on the doors. The bulkhead is protected by same material as the floor liner. The bulkhead liner panels are shaped to follow the contour of the bodywork. Syncro floor liners possess key characteristics that make them unique. For a start, they are installed using spacers in all the floor channels to achieve uniform weight distribution. In addition, the edge profiles and anchor ring cups are made from stainless steel.

A storage wall for perfect order in this Ducato

The left wall of this Ducato L3H2 for servicing overhead platforms is configured as storage for the parts and equipment needed.

  • At floor level we have two compartments, both enclosed by a lift-up door. The rearmost is also fitted with a lift-and-rotate bottom door to provide easier access to the interior.
  • Further up are three columns of metal drawers, all with non-slip mats and metal dividers. A total of 11 drawers of different sizes are provided.
  • Above these is a series of seven shelves, with non-slip mats and dividers just like the drawers, and one specially shaped shelf for removable plastic containers.
  • A tall, narrow compartment has been left free at the bulkhead to house the van’s compressor.
  • At the very top, space is optimised by a full-length tray with a door at the rear, for carrying long objects.

Functionality, looks and strength, three keywords for Syncro racking

The right wall is divided into two main sections. The racking near the rear doors consists of various storage elements (drawers, enclosed compartments and configurable shelves) and a patented fold-away vice bench with built-in ground support. The area near the side door is equipped only with cargo retaining accessories. The cargo in this case is a folding stepladder, but the lashing system can be used for various types of equipment thanks to cleverly located brackets on the floor.

All Syncro System van racking is designed to:

  • be fully functional
  • improve the appearance of the cargo compartment and project a more professional image
  • resist the various stresses to which racking is subjected in daily use

The work area at the Ducato’s bulkhead

The bulkhead of this Ducato for technical assistance has been fitted out as a practical work area for adjustments, minor repairs and similar workshop tasks. A work surface made from super-strong plywood with a steel covering is fixed over an open compartment that houses a shelf and a sealed tray. A second vice has been installed on this work bench and maximum functionality is ensured by the provision of electrical power sockets and a hose reel for delivering compressed air outside the vehicle.

Not just racking: a Syncro compressor and electrical system too

Most of the racking in this Ducato is dedicated to storage for tools, equipment, spares and sundries, but attention has also been paid to ensuring autonomy away from base. With this in mind, the van is equipped with:

  • an electrical system that provides power for devices and tools
  • a compressor connected to a hose reel to supply compressed air to the work bench and outside the van

Accessories for all needs in the Ducato L3H2

Syncro’s mission is to satisfy customers’ needs, enabling them to work more efficiently and saving them both time and money.

The addition of suitable accessories to a racking system plays an essential role in achieving this objective! In this Ducato, attention has been paid to ensuring uniform lighting throughout the interior, with a number of LED lights installed under the roof. In addition, to facilitate simple cleaning operations, a paper roll holder and a handwash kit with water container and tap has been fitted to the rear door. Various cargo retaining accessories have also been added to secure items too large or bulky to fit in the drawers and shelves. These include sections of milled rail with ring attachments installed vertically on the side panel flanges, two sections of Syncroblock bar on the right wall and two spray can racks on the right racking facing the rear doors.
