A Fiat Ducato for an green energy business

A complete racking system for a green energy firm’s Ducato

The firm that commissioned this racking system installs and services new-generation energy systems. The vehicle they use to move from one job to the next is an L2 H2 version of a 2006 Fiat Ducato. Syncro System was tasked with transforming the “naked” van into a mobile workshop that satisfied the needs of the customer. Let’s take a closer look at the changes made!

Custom liners for the Fiat Ducato L2 H2

All kinds of racking and accessories can be installed, but before this work starts it’s essential to protect the bodywork against damage and damp. Skipping this step means exposing the original body panels to rust, risking an expensive visit to the body repair shop.

The transformation of this Fiat Ducato L2 H2 began with the installation of a set of Syncro liners. The plywood floor liner features protective steel edge profiles at the doors. The full-height panelling on the walls and doors is in steel sheet. The customer chose to cover the bulkhead in custom-made plywood panels with a marble-look finish – a different finish to the resin coating of the floor liners.

A great Syncro System work bench for the Ducato

A mobile workshop capable of improving the efficiency of its user simply must have a dedicated work area. In the case of this Ducato, a work bench has been created along the left wall using a smart combination of racking and accessories.

  • A plywood work surface is supported by four generous drawers, positioned in turn over a floor-level compartment with a lift-up door. The bench formed in this way is equipped with a metal vice and illuminated by a powerful LED tube light. Over the bench is a Multibox cabinet with 16 transparent containers for small parts, some tilting and others pull-out.
  • The racking column further along comprises a large floor-level compartment for transporting a compressor, complete with a Syncroblock bar, lashing straps and a power socket. Overhead are three shelves. The lowest of these is equipped with the standard non-slip mat and dividers while the middle and top shelves are specially configured to carry five and seven removable containers in two different sizes.
  • At the top very is a full-length tray with a door at the rear, for carrying long objects.

How many tools and spares do you need for your job?

We always get the same answer... Lots! To transport a large number of small parts and tools in perfect order, you need a good number of practical and easily accessible compartments and containers – which must also be secure when the van is travelling.

The racking on the right side of this Fiat Ducato for an energy service consists of a floor-level compartment with a lift-up door, seven drawers arranged in two stacks, two configurable shelves and one shelf of removable plastic containers.

This configuration is complemented at the rear by a fold-away vice bench. This patented product is exclusive to Syncro System and features a support that extends and retracts automatically. This useful accessory provides a second, extremely robust work surface that is easily accessible from outside the van.

Cargo retaining systems on the Ducato’s bulkhead

The bulkhead has been transformed into an equipped wall, with two sections of steel rail arranged in parallel and fitted with lashing straps for securing heavy loads and movable telescopic hooks. The photos show one possible use of this lashing system, for securing a folding ladder, part of which fits snugly in the space between the left side racking and the bulkhead.

A cabinet of transparent containers has been added at the top of the bulkhead.

Custom solutions make all the difference in this Fiat Ducato

There’s no such thing as a standard solution for Syncro System! Every single racking system is custom-designed meet the needs of its user. This Ducato incorporates a number of “special” solutions.

  • A folding table has been added at the sliding side door. When not in use, this can be folded down to occupy almost zero space. When needed, e.g. for filling in forms or for using a laptop, it can be locked in place and accessed easily from the ground outside the van.
  • An electrical system wiring has been installed, with its own electric power panel and external power socket. Syncro System can give your van complete energy autonomy! In the Ducato seen here, autonomy has been achieved by means of a smart wiring system and an external power socket for connection to the mains.
  • There is even a quick connector for the compressed air supply. Normally placed inside the van, in this particular Ducato the connector has been installed underneath, following a request by the customer. It can be connected to the hose reel at the rear doors.

Special accessories for special needs

To maximise efficiency and functionality, this Ducato L2 H2 has been equipped with other accessories too.

  • Ventilation is ensured by vents with stainless-steel grilles in the right rear door. The presence of two vents ensures more efficient air circulation when the van is moving.
  • The addition of a handwash kit and a paper roll holder makes it easy to wash and dry hands and tools on site.
  • LED tube lights under the roof ensure excellent illumination over the van’s work areas.
