A Ducato for installing stoves and boilers

A Ducato for installing and maintaining stoves and boilers

The work of installing and maintaining boilers and stoves requires a very well-equipped van. Diagnostic tools, spare parts, building materials, ladders and safety devices are all items typically needed for this type of work. And in addition to storage space for all these essential supplies, there must also be enough space left over to carry stoves and boilers safely. The cargo compartment must therefore be organised in a way that permits the transport of all necessary items, and the racking must be functional and orderly enough to save the user time and convey an image of professionalism and preparation to customers.

The 2006 Fiat Ducato L2 H2 seen in the photos on this page is a great example of a successful racking project for a technician who installs, services and tests stoves, boilers and other such heating systems.

Racking has been arranged on all three walls, but elements have been selected and mounted in such a way as to leave plenty of free space in the centre of the cargo area. Let’s take a closer look!

Choosing the most suitable material to line your Ducato

The liners in the Syncro catalogue come in a choice of materials suited to different needs and professions. Our experts will guide you in selecting the best material and the most suitable configuration during pre-sales consultations. The liners installed in this Ducato, for example, include:

  • an aluminium tread plate floor liner with a patterned raised surface that confers greater rigidity and wear resistance and also gives exceptional grip
  • a stainless-steel footplate on the rear bumper, with a perforated relief surface for maximum grip – a great addition if the back of your van is going to be subjected to regular stresses like the positioning of loading ramps
  • custom-made panels in impact-resistant, painted steel on the doors and walls

The left of the Ducato: generous free space

The racking on the left of the van leaves much of the side wall free but still provides two large shelves for storing frequently used material.

Instead of normal shelves supported by side panels, two full-length trays have been installed in this Ducato, mounted on three robust brackets, two supported by the van’s own body pillars, the third attached to the side panel of the racking on the bulkhead. Full-length trays are ideal for transporting long objects and can be accessed both from inside the vehicle and from the ground, using the fold-down door at the rear to load and remove items.

The right of the Ducato: maximum space, minimum footprint

The right side of this Ducato for installing and servicing stoves and boilers has been fitted with a column of six configurable shelves. The racking protrudes barely beyond the wheel arch, which is partly by a floor-level compartment delimited at the front by a bottom profile.

Each shelf in the column is equipped with a non-slip mat and has provision for adding metal space dividers. Rear panels on the first five shelves prevent objects from falling down behind the racking. The smaller top shelf has no protection at the back.

The Ducato’s optimal use of the bulkhead

Your van’s bulkhead can be left free, fitted with accessories or, especially if your van is a larger model, equipped with racking just like the side walls. This is the case with the Ducato shown on this page. The most complex column of racking is actually installed on the bulkhead and consists of an open, floor-level compartment, three shelves and four metal drawers with secure closing mechanisms to stop contents falling out during transport. Each drawer is fitted with a non-slip mat and can be configured in separate sections using dividers held in place by anti-vibration clips.

The Ducato’s functional arrangement of accessories

One accessory in particular makes a significant contribution to saving floor space in this Fiat Ducato L2 H2. This is the under-roof ladder rack.

The rack consists of a rail, a folding ladder support at the rear, a sliding shuttle with an automatic system for holding it in extended position and an adjustable stop at the front. The ladder is held securely in place by a lashing strap to ensure safety on the road. To provide adequate interior lighting, Syncro has installed three LED tube lights on the roof cross-members.

The van’s equipment is completed by two cargo retaining accessories: a hook and strap lashing system on the outward-facing side panel of bulkhead racking and two sections of ROTM rail, installed forward of the wheel arch on the left-hand wall for use with lashing straps to secure heavy loads.
