A Ducato transformation for an environmental consultancy
The 5 rules for designing the perfect mobile workshop
1. Arrange the van’s interior into areas for specific functions
Space should be divided up so that the three main functions have clearly designated areas: storage for small consumables and tools, a work area, and an area for transporting bulky equipment.
2. Ensure maximum safety.
Racking must comply with certified safety standards to prevent the load from moving around in the event of sudden braking or violent impact. Everything must remain securely in place, so as not to endanger the vehicle or other road users.
3. Everything must be at your fingertips.
When working on site, you need to have all your tools, spares and parts stored in perfect order to access them instantly and not waste time returning to base or re-purchasing missing material! What’s more, containers and storage compartments must be easy to open and close, and configured in an intuitive manner. In short, everything must be designed to make your work easier and not more difficult!
4. Materials must be durable and washable.
Whatever you install in the van may be subjected to intensive use and harsh environmental conditions. Your racking and accessories will only last for years if they are made from durable materials and are easy to clean!
5. Install an autonomous power supply.
Your van must offer the facilities you need to work! You really can’t do without power outlets, an inverter and interior lighting.
The Ducato mobile workshop for an environmental consultancy

The customer who asked Syncro System to fit out this Fiat Ducato L2 H2 offers environmental analysis and consulting services. The interior of the van is configured to meet the need for an efficient workshop and for practicality in a vehicle that has to operate outdoors in various logistic situations, and sometimes under quite unpredictable conditions.
Every little detail has been designed to simplify the work of the van’s operators. Racking has been installed on all three walls, with the bulkhead transformed into a work area. The vehicle came to our workshops with a floor liner already fitted. The Syncro team enhanced the level of interior protection by fitting galvanised and painted steel panels to the walls and doors.
Let’s examine the racking in detail, paying particular attention to customised solutions designed to meet the users’ needs!
Other racking solutions for the Ducato
The Ducato’s left and right sides: storage and autonomy
Both sides of the Ducato are dedicated primarily to storage.
On the left side we have:
- a floor-level compartment over the wheel arch with a lift-up door and a robust bottom profile, and a second floor-level compartment with a strap-type case transport kit
- a pull-out tray with two 173 mm high metal cases, large enough to carry laboratory instruments and equipment
- one “normal” metal drawer and a second open drawer (see “Special solutions” below)
- a configurable shelf with a patented lift-and-rotate door
- two shelves with top-pivot doors and a gap at the bottom (see below)
- a row of Multibox pull-out transparent containers
- a full-length top tray
On the right side we have:
- a floor-level compartment, two shelves with top-pivot doors and a gap at the bottom (see below) and a third shelf at the top
The work area at the Ducato’s bulkhead
The work area in this Ducato for environmental analysis and consulting is located at the bulkhead. It consists of a floor-level compartment with a door, four drawers with non-slip mats and internal space dividers, and a worktop in marble-look plywood, complete with raised sides and back.
Special solutions for the Ducato
Syncro racking technicians always find a way to satisfy customers’ requests, even when they are totally unconventional and need racking to be designed and installed in an unusual way. This Ducato affords numerous examples of this.
- On the left of the van you can see a 76 mm high drawer at the bottom of a large compartment with a multi-socket. Drawers are normally closed in at the top by another element of racking. In this case, however, the customer wanted us to leave plenty of free space above the drawer with a view to installing an Ecoflow Delta 2 power station in future. This also explains the presence of the power sockets.
- On the left and right of the van, you can see shelves with top-pivot doors but with gaps left beneath them. The compartments formed in this way are therefore only partially enclosed. The customer specifically requested this in order to transport products that require ventilation at all times, even during transport.
Accessories and functionality, another success story
A van with no accessories cannot achieve its full potential. Take a look at the Syncro catalogue and you’ll discover a vast range of accessories for every need, from cleaning to lighting, security and cargo retention. Adding even one or two useful accessories can sometimes transform the work of a van’s operators!
This Ducato L2 H2 has been equipped with a ROTM rail and lashing strap for securing heavy objects, a paper roll holder, two cable holders, two multi-sockets and two LED tube lights under the roof.
