The ability to be completely autonomous in off-site maintenance work requires a certain amount of planning and organisation. You need to know in advance what you will need according to the work to be done, carry everything necessary with you and minimise time-wasting and forgetfulness.
A well-equipped van is your main ally in achieving this ambitious goal. Here are the minimum requirements:
On this page we examine the equipment installed by Syncro System in a Fiat Ducato L3 H2 owned by a company that services earthmoving and forestry machines.
The business that owns of this Fiat Ducato specialises in the maintenance of earthmoving machines like excavators, shovels and compactors, and of forestry machines like tree fellers, debarkers, mulchers and chippers.
The business needed a large van because of the nature of its work and the large quantities of parts and tools needed for each job. The choice finally fell on an L3 H2 variant offering plenty of space in length and a good amount of height too.
The interior has been efficiently arranged, with part of the left wall used as the work area and the rest of the left and all of the right wall assigned to racking and containers. The van’s bulky equipment has been positioned near the bulkhead, while various accessories are fixed to the walls and racking side panels.
Never leave your van without liners!
You may not need a complete set, but at least some panelling is needed to protect your van’s bodywork over time. In this Fiat Ducato L3 H2, for example, the customer asked us to install only a floor liner, leaving the bulkhead uncovered and retaining the original panels on the walls and doors.
The floor liner is made from panels of marble-look plywood with two Airline rails recessed into them. These rails provide perfect support for cargo retaining hooks and lashing straps.
The work area is located on the left of the Fiat Ducato L3 H2, near the rear door. It consists of a marble-look plywood workbench with raised rear and steel edge profiles. The bench is served by a perforated tool rack panel to which tools and equipment can be attached using hooks and clips, a multi-socket, a compressed air hose reel and an LED tube light fixed under the full-length top tray.
The remainder of the racking on this wall comprises:
The functionality of this area of the Ducato is complemented by a number of carefully chosen accessories:
A real mini-warehouse occupies the right of the Ducato. 12 metal drawers arranged in two columns are supported by a floor-level compartment, also partly enclosed by a lift-and-rotate door. The deeper section of racking ends in a shelf with a top-pivot door. At the top, a shallower section consists of a MultiBox cabinet with six pull-out transparent containers.
The rear-facing side panel is equipped with a vice bench with integrated support and metal vice and with two spray can racks behind it.
This Ducato is already well equipped like this, but key items of equipment located near the bulkhead make a fundamental contribution to the van’s ability to operate autonomously:
