A Ducato L2 H2 for servicing earth moving machinery

A super-functional van workshop in a Ducato, thanks to Syncro racking

Syncro System designs and makes racking to meet the needs of van users. Every solution identified and implemented by Syncro racking centres is therefore fully customised and unique.

The owner of the Fiat Ducato L2 H2 illustrated on this page services and repairs earth moving machinery. His request was to transform the back of his van into a fully-fledged mobile workshop containing everything he needs to deal with all sorts of maintenance and repair job in all kinds of situation.

The Syncro team installed racking on all three walls of this Ducato and configured the bulkhead as the van’s work area. Let’s look at this racking solution in detail!

Tough and easily washable liners for the Ducato

Because this customer services and repairs heavy equipment, his daily work inevitably involves the use of fuels and lubricants and the transport of spare parts and tools. The consequences for the Ducato’s bodywork, if left unprotected, include dirt, dents and scratches. But it’s easy enough to prevent such damage to the bodywork of your van. All you need is a good set of liners. Syncro System can protect every interior surface of your van to extend its working life and keep its bodywork looking like new for many years to come.

The floor of this Ducato is covered by an aluminium tread plate liner. Apart from being easy to wash, this material is also extremely tough and provides a great non-slip surface. The van’s walls and doors are lined with steel panelling for maximum strength. Now let’s move on to see how the racking has been configured to give each area of the van a function of its own.

Drawers and shelves on the left of the Ducato

The area on the left of the van is designed as storage for equipment, tools and spare parts.

  • The floor-level compartment over the wheel arch is partly enclosed by a door that opens to offer unrestricted access but effectively retains contents when closed.
  • The compartment alongside is equipped with a sealed, stainless-steel tray and a set of hooks and straps for carrying jerry cans, preventing accidental spillages.
  • Further up are four metal drawers with non-slip bottom mats and internal dividers, all featuring Syncro’s patented automatic latch mechanism, and a series of eight configurable shelves, all open apart from one enclosed by a lift-up door.

Operational autonomy for the Ducato

The right of the van is almost entirely taken up by a permanent housing for a powerful Thunder compressor with Kohler Command Pro motor. The compressor is powered by the van’s own battery via a dedicated wiring loom and feeds compressed air to the hose reel on the van’s bulkhead.

The machine is installed on a robust marble-look plywood surface over the right wheel arch. This location ensures adequate ventilation and eliminates the risk of overheating. An industrial grade electrical panel on the side panel of the right racking includes a thermal-magnetic circuit breaker as well as an on-off switch for the compressor. Vertical space on this side of the van has been exploited to the full by adding two shelves over the compressor compartment.

A complete work area at the Ducato’s bulkhead

The bulkhead serves as a third interior “wall”. In this van it has been configured as a work area with a generous work bench in marble-look plywood, complete with a raised rear edge. The work surface is supported by a racking column comprising an open floor-level compartment and eight drawers.

The work bench is equipped with a rotating metal vice and, on the inside of the van, a cabinet of drawers supplied by the van’s owner.

A hose reel and cable reel allow electrical power and compressed air to be distributed outside the van through the sliding side door.

The Ducato’s accessories: improved functionality and order

The accessories added to this Ducato L2 H2 for heavy equipment servicing allow the customer to achieve maximum efficiency and professionalism in his work. The reasoning behind these accessories is always the same: saving time and money and concentrating all energy on the job in hand.

  • Cleaning accessories: The left rear door is fitted with a handwash kit comprising a water tank with tap and a liquid soap dispenser. A paper roll holder is installed on the rear-facing side panel of the left racking.
  • Cargo retaining accessories: The right rear door is able to carry a step ladder thanks to the addition of two lengths of Syncroblock bar and two adjustable hooks. Syncroblock bar is amazingly versatile and can be used with a wide range of cargo retaining accessories, from simple hooks and straps to universal clamps, cable holders and telescopic hooks.
  • Lighting accessories: Three LED tube lights under the roof provide bright and uniform illumination for the van’s load compartment and use far less energy than conventional lights.
