A Fiat Ducato with equipment for the army

A complete racking system for the Italian army in a Fiat Ducato L3H2

The racking system seen on this page was designed and installed by Syncro System in a Fiat Ducato L3H2 operated by an Italian army barracks. The vehicle is used to provide assistance for army vehicles and equipment and has been transformed into a mobile workshop with a storage area on the left and a work area on the right. The van is also fitted with a number of accessories to maximise autonomy under challenging logistic conditions. Let’s take a closer look, starting with the bodywork protection.

A complete set of liners to protect and improve the Fiat Ducato

All models of van and all forms of normal use require protection against damage and wear to the body and floor panels of the cargo compartment. Guided by thirty years of experience in van racking, Syncro always recommends the installation of suitable bodywork protection.

The floor of this Fiat Ducato is covered by a marble-look plywood floor liner with stainless steel profiles on all exposed edges – an important detail that, along with Syncro’s special installation technique, ensures unrivalled mechanical strength and resistance to damp. The doors and walls are covered in custom-made steel panels, a product of unrivalled strength.

Plenty of storage in the Ducato, thanks to drawers, shelves and lockers

The left of this Ducato L3H2 is entirely occupied by Syncro racking.

  • The two floor-level compartments serve different purposes. Thanks to the addition of a door, the rearmost has been turned into secure storage. The one at the front is equipped with a dedicated cargo retaining accessory and a hook and strap lashing system to secure an Ecoflow power station.
  • Eight metal drawers with non-slip mats and internal space dividers provide storage for small tools and spares.
  • An enclosed shelf provides additional storage space higher up, along with a top shelf with a raised back panel.
  • A compact Multibox cabinet of 12 pull-out transparent containers serves as practical storage for parts that need to be in clear view and must never be allowed to run out.
  • Two van lockers with keys are located near the bulkhead. The two are configured differently inside. One has two shelves, two drawers and a multi-socket for powering or recharging electrical or electronic devices; the other has four plain shelves. These lockers not only keep valuables out of sight from prying eyes but feature a valid anti-theft deterrent: a double-latch locking system!

How to create a functional work area in your Ducato

The right side of this army Ducato is arranged as a generous and functional work space for minor repairs and maintenance jobs. On this side too we have two floor-level compartments, one with a lift-up door and the other with a leak-proof steel tray for carrying cans of oil, fuel and other liquids. Above are a tray for two metal cases and a total of five drawers. Syncro drawers and case trays both feature a patented, automatic retaining system to keep them securely closed.

Over the drawers we have a super-strong work surface in steel and plywood, with a raised edge at the back to stop items falling down behind the racking. To extend the work area, Syncro has added one of its patented fold-away vice benches, with a support that extends and retracts automatically as the bench is opened and closed.

The racking on this side is completed by a row of transparent plastic containers mounted right at the top of the wall, with an LED light underneath to illuminate the work bench.

A multitasking bulkhead!

Since the van is equipped with a side door on the right, the customer asked us to install a sideways-opening drawer cabinet where it could be accessed easily from outside. The van bulkhead is also equipped with various cargo retaining accessories for maximum flexibility depending on the job in hand.

A fully autonomous van really is possible thanks to Syncro

Turning a van into a really effective mobile workshop means giving it the autonomy to cope with all kinds of job. This Ducato is equipped with an Ecoflow power station which supplies electrical energy to various power sockets via a cable harness that is custom-made to meet the needs of the operators. In the space between the left side racking and the bulkhead, Syncro has added an oilless portable compressor.

Accessories: a great contribution to the Ducato’s mobile workshop

It’s impossible to think of a good mobile workshop without accessories, and this Ducato L3H2 is equipped with:

  • cargo retaining accessories: on the bulkhead, a bracket for a fire extinguisher with a lashing strap and a section of Syncroblock bar with hooks and straps; at the top of the left wall, over the compressor, a second section of Syncroblock bar with hooks for clothes; and on the rear-facing side panel of the left racking, a bar rack with a metal pocket and a strap;
  • cleaning accessories: on the left rear door, a handwash kit with water container and tap, a soap dispenser and a paper roll holder;
  • lighting accessories: three LED lights under the roof and a fourth over the work bench;
  • a security lock to prevent unwanted access to the back of the van.
