A Ducato racking system for servicing machinery
Van racking priorities: the example of a Ducato
All Syncro van racking projects start by establishing the customer’s priorities and then listing every single need on paper.
The van described here is a Fiat Ducato L2 H1 owned by a company that designs and constructs automation systems for the storage, movement and processing of polymers, plastic powders and foodstuffs. The van is intended to service the machinery installed in the factories of customers.
Here are the key requests presented to Syncro System:
- use 100% of the space in height and length on both sides to provide a large number of storage containers
- a work bench that does not take up valuable space in the storage area
- easy loading and unloading of machines and tools with wheels, along with other heavy cargo
Let’s delve into how this medium-sized van was transformed into a mobile workshop capable of revolutionising operations and maximising the professionalism and punctuality of the service technicians!

Other vans for servicing machinery
At Syncro, even the liners are fully customised!
Lining the interior of your van is always a good idea. Liners protect the surfaces that are subject to most stress, provide a flat, even floor, prevent dents and scratches, avoid the formation of rust and maintain a high resale value for longer.
Customers are free to choose which interior surfaces to protect and which liner materials to use. The Syncro catalogue offers a range of alternatives with different looks and functional characteristics.
This Fiat Ducato is fitted with a floor liner made from marble-look plywood with anchor ring cups and edge profiles in stainless steel. The bulkhead is partly covered by a panel of aluminium chequer plate while the van’s walls are protected by panels of galvanised and grey-painted steel.
Drawers: essential elements of van racking!
The left of this Fiat Ducato for servicing industrial plant is dominated by one of the racking elements that Syncro customers request most frequently: metal drawers.
Syncro drawers are simple but amazingly strong in design and build. They are made of high-strength steel, slide on ball-bearing runners and extend all the way for easy access to contents. They are opened and closed by means of a recessed front handle and incorporate an automatic latch mechanism. At the bottom there is always a non-slip mat, and interior space can be configured as needed using dividers to keep parts separate.
This side of the van boasts 14 drawers of different heights. These are complemented by one floor-level compartment with a lift-up door that turns it into useful storage, another with a strap-type case transport kit, and a secure, double-door locker.
Pull-out vice bench
The customer wanted a practical work surface that took up only a minimum of space. Syncro’s solution was to install a pull-out vice bench between two levels of racking on the left of the van. When closed, this takes up a bare minimum of space – only that required for the vice. By unscrewing two simple knobs you can release and extract the bench to form a practical, strong plywood work surface.
The right wall: drawers and more
The right of the van is also dedicated to storage. The floor-level compartment is enclosed by a door like that on the left. Further up are three pull-out trays with a total of six metal tool cases. Then come three drawers and, at the top, a shelf designed to carry four removable plastic containers.
The Ducato’s accessories
Accessories add the finishing touches to most racking systems. This is certainly the case with this Ducato, which is equipped with various accessories. To start with, LED tube lights under the roof ensure uniform lighting throughout the cargo compartment. Then comes a paper roll holder, fixed to the side panel of the left racking, indispensable for cleaning hands and tools. A first aid kit and a metal storage pocket have been added beneath. Another such pocket is found on the right of the van, along with a cable holder.
The bulkhead is equipped with a cargo retaining system consisting of a milled bar and lashing straps.
Effortless loading? Syncro makes it easy
The Syncro team equipped this Ducato with two accessories that make the loading of machinery and heavy cargo both safe and easy: a winch and a ramp.
The winch, installed near the bulkhead, is a compact but powerful unit that generates a tractive force of over 1,500kg thanks to a high-performance electric motor powered by the vehicle’s battery. A remote (or cabled) control allows you to wind in or out the cable attached to whatever cargo you need to be load or unload.
A folding aluminium ramp makes takes the remaining effort out of loading operations. This type of ramp bridges the gap between the ground and the load bed without risk to the operator and can be folded for easy storage at the bulkhead when not in use.
