A Ducato equipped for servicing packaging machines

FIAT DUCATO: THE BIG VAN FROM FIAT. A SUCCESS STORY SINCE 1981

The Fiat Ducato has been in production since 1981. The first series of the van came out in 1981, the second in 1993 and the third in 2006. Components for the Ducato are manufactured at the Sevel di Atessa plant in Val di Sangro, Italy, but the van is assembled in various factories around the world. The Ducato has been a great success ever since it first appeared, and over 4.5 million units have been sold. The spacious load compartment of the robustly made Ducato is ideal for carrying goods and for installing mobile workshops, of even a combination of both, as the van shown here proves.

FITTING OUT THE DUCATO AS A WORKSHOP FOR INSTALLING AND SERVICING PACKAGING MACHINES

The Ducato illustrated on this page is operated by a company that deals in packaging machines: forming machines, banding machines, pallet wrappers, hot-shrink film machines, and even complete end of line packaging systems. The company supplies, installs and services all its machines. A key requirement was therefore to have most of the load floor available for loading machinery. A small workshop for installing and servicing them was also needed. In this particular solution, Syncro’s technicians installed all the necessary shelves and drawers at the bulkhead end of the load compartment. In preparation for installing the racking as such, the team began by fitting body liners to avoid the sort of damage typically caused to the floor and side walls by material sliding around and falling during loading and unloading or while the van is on the road. The floor was protected with a 12 mm thick, resin-coated plywood floor liner, while the walls were lined with honeycomb plastic panels. Finally, a stainless steel footplate with a relief, non-slip surface was fitted to protect the back bumper. As already stated, the racking was installed across the bulkhead between the cab and the van body. It starts, at the bottom, with an open wheel arch cabinet, an ideal solution for storing tool cases and other such items. Above this are three drawer units containing large metal drawers with ball-bearing mounted telescopic runners, automatic locking handles, non-slip rubber mats and aluminium dividers. The top of the right hand drawer cabinet has been fitted with a plywood work surface. The upper section to the left of the racking consists of two open shelves with mats and dividers, while the section to the right, above the work bench consists of three metal cabinets of tilting transparent containers, each with an automatic locking button. This solution permits a large number of small parts to be carried and kept clearly visible at all times. The Syncro catalogue also includes a large number of accessories that make working in your van easier and more productive. To illuminate the load compartment, this customer chose to fit three compact, powerful, but efficient 10 W LED ceiling lights. A water canister with tap has been fitted to the left rear door while a 250 mm paper roll holder has been installed on the right side of the racking. As with over 70,000 racking systems installed since 1996, the Syncro team has found the perfect way to fit out this Ducato in line with the user’s requirements!
