The Fiat Ducato L2 H2 illustrated on this page is owned by a heating and plumbing firm who asked us to maximise both functionality and free space. To do so, the Syncro team proposed a solution that confines all the racking to the left of the van, leaving the rest of the load space free.

The right wall is equipped only with a shelf that protrudes no further than the wheel arch. Additional carrying capacity is provided by a roof rack.

The more exposed you leave the walls of your van, the more dents and scratches will be caused by cargo movements. If you plan to leave parts of the van unprotected by racking, it is therefore good practice to protect those areas with strong liners instead.

In this Fiat Ducato, the floor is covered by a plywood floor liner with a marble-look surface, complete with protective metal profiles at all exposed edges and stainless-steel cups for the original anchor rings.

The customer also asked us to enclose the wheel arches. The vertical panels are made of marble-look plywood while the top covers are made of painted steel sheet. The same material was chosen as panelling for the walls and doors. Only the bottom section of the bulkhead has been protected.

To maximise floor space in the Ducato’s cargo compartment, the left-side racking nearest the rear doors has been limited to a module consisting of two side panels and a MultiBox cabinet of 10 tilting and removable transparent containers. Covering this is a shelf in marble-look plywood that can also serve as a support for cargo.

Further in from this first column is a second, full-height column consisting of:

• an open floor-level compartment delimited only by side panels
• 2 case trays carrying a total of 4 metal cases
• one small configurable shelf and two larger ones higher up
• 2 open shelves of removable plastic containers
• at the very top, a row of tilting, removable transparent containers.

The solution adopted for the right wall shows how the flexibility of Syncro racking lets you combines functionality with space saving.

A shelf consisting of two side panels and a marble-look plywood top has been installed around the wheel arch. An Airline profile has been fitted at the front of this, for use with hooks and lashing straps. Two lengths of SyncroBlock bar have also been fixed to the wall above to secure cargo placed on the shelf.

SyncroBlock bar is one of the most popular accessories with Syncro customers. It is amazingly versatile and can be used with a vast range of cargo retaining accessories, including cable holders, universal clamps and plastic clips.

The carrying capacity of this Fiat Ducato is not limited only to its racking. Look up and you can’t miss the roof rack. This comprises two side fences, a set of crossbars, and a rear loading roller.

What makes Syncro roof racks unique is the UltraSilent rubber profile under the first crossbar. This breaks up airflow over the roof when the vehicle is moving, reducing vibration and noise in the driver’s cab. A great improvement to the comfort of vehicle users!
