A Ford Transit L3 H2 for a plumbing business

Plumbers need tidiness, storage space and good organisation: here’s how to achieve them in a Ford Transit

Ask 1,000 plumbers and you won’t find two who want exactly the same racking system in their van. Luckily, the configurations permitted by Syncro racking are virtually endless, so everyone can choose their preferred make and model of van and request whatever racking elements will be most useful for their own way of working.

Some requirements, of course, are common to all plumbers who have to work at different sites: tidiness, storage space and good organisation.

On this page we see a 2014 MY Ford Transit L3 H2 with Syncro System racking for installing plumbing, air conditioning and fire prevention systems in civil and industrial buildings. While this system is quite simple in its configuration, it is nevertheless both complete and functional. Racking is installed on both sides of the van and practical accessories have been added on the bulkhead and roof. Let’s take a closer look!

The basic rule for all vans: always install liners to prevent damage

Prevention is never an option. Installing protective liners in your van avoids the need for time-consuming and above all costly repairs. And that’s not all. If its bodywork remains attractive, your van will have a higher resale value when you decide to change it, and you yourself will project a more professional image. The positive effect of a new-looking van should never be overlooked; it promotes loyalty and tells people that you are a real professional who knows how to work in a tidy, organised way!

In this plumber’s Ford Transit L3 H2, the floor and bulkhead are protected by a floor liner and shaped panels made from marble-look plywood. The floor liner is installed over reinforcing spacers and fitted with stainless-steel anchor ring cups and edge profiles to ensure maximum rigidity and optimal weight distribution and to protect the original floor more effectively, especially at the doors.

The doors and sides of the van are lined with painted steel panelling.

Enclosed storage and removable containers on the left of the Transit

The entire left side of this plumber’s Transit is equipped with racking, consisting of:

A vice bench and transparent containers on the right of the Transit

The racking on the right of the Transit consists of:

  • a floor-level compartment with a lift-up door
  • three metal drawers alongside three case trays, a popular combination of elements that provides practical storage for traditional tools that fit neatly inside drawers and for power tools that are more often carried in cases for easy transport between the van and the work site
  • two configurable shelves
  • a cabinet of 12 pull-out transparent containers made from PMMA, a super-strong plastic material that resists impact, does not turn yellow, and lets you see exactly what is stored inside
  • a pull-out vice bench, sandwiched between the bottom and next levels of racking

Two of the plumber’s best friends: the case compartment and vice bench

Two items of racking in this Ford Transit play key roles in the plumber’s daily work.

A case compartment is located towards the front of the cargo space, consisting of a sliding shuttle on a mounting bar and an end plate. Any number of cases can be carried here, ranging from one until the entire compartment is full, always with the same high level of security!

A pull-out vice bench is installed between two levels of racking where it takes up almost no space apart from that occupied by the vice itself. This accessory is very easy to open and provides a robust surface that can be used as a compact work bench for repairs and modifications away from base. A panel of aluminium chequer plate around the bench protects the side panel against accidental impacts.

What about accessories? You can’t do without them!

The accessories in this plumber’s Ford Transit L3 H2 complete a racking system focused on functionality: LED tubes provide energy-efficient lighting throughout the van; a paper roll holder permits essential basic cleaning operations and a mandatory first aid kit is provided where it can be accessed rapidly from outside the vehicle.

Cargo retaining accessories also play a key role: in addition to a silicone cartridge holder and a rail for lashing straps, two lengths of Syncroblock bar have been installed on the bulkhead, one at the bottom, one at the top. The bar at the top is equipped only with a cable holder at present, but can have other accessories added later. Many items are compatible with Syncroblock slider bar.

The bottom bar, on the other hand, is equipped with attachments and straps for securing bulky cargo.

Using the roof saves space inside the van

If you don’t have enough space inside your van or, as in the case of this Transit L3 H2, you prefer not to clutter it up too much, a custom roof rack is the ideal solution.

On this plumber’s Transit, Syncro System has installed a roof rack comprising cross bars, side fences and a rear loading roller.

Note the Ultrasilent rubber profile underneath the first cross bar. This greatly improves driving comfort by breaking up turbulence under the roof rack and reducing noise and vibration.
