Sometimes, logistic considerations demand the use of an off-road vehicle instead of a typical van. In such cases, the racking needs to be adapted too. These photos illustrate a case in point. The vehicle is a Toyota Land Cruiser, an off-roader designed to handle all sorts of terrain and therefore ideal for a small electrical services business that operates in a mountainous area. The Syncro System team examined the needs and requests of this customer and transformed them into a practical, functional and compact racking system.
The Land Cruiser’s luggage compartment has a capacity of only 390 litres, a limited space that demands rational use and a
fully customised racking solution.
For example? A
floor liner, an item installed in 99% of vans to protect the original floor against wear and damage and to provide a level surface, has been fitted only to the rearmost area, immediately next to the tailgate that opens to reveal the racking. This small floor liner is in
non-slip marble-look plywood and is trimmed with stainless steel edging. Its purpose is to protect the floor beneath against damage caused by objects being dropped during the loading and unloading of the drawers and shelves!
Irrespective of where he works, any electrician needs to carry a minimum set of power tools, spare parts, electrical components and cables. And all this material needs to be tidy and instantly accessible because only in this way can our electrician work efficiently, save time and money for himself, and provide excellent service to his customers. The racking system in this Land Cruiser holds all the necessary tools and materials. It is positioned against the rear seats and opens towards the rear of the vehicle so that everything is immediately accessible when the tailgate is opened.
This full-height, custom racking solution contains the following items, starting from the bottom:
- a floor-level compartment partly enclosed by a fully opening door;
- a large shelf;
- four metal cases, carried in pull-out case trays
- three drawers in two different sizes, all with a release button in the recessed handle, automatic latch systems and non-slip mats and space dividers inside;
- a top shelf, again with space dividers.
This offering of different storage spaces effectively matches the needs of the user, who also requested a
spray can rack on the right side of the racking and a
first aid kit on the left. The positioning of these two accessories demonstrates how every little nook and cranny can be used creatively, thanks to the amazing flexibility of
Syncro Ultra racking.
The Land Cruiser has been fitted with an
Ultrasilent roof rack with a stainless-steel pipe carrier and a single slide ladder rack. This system was custom-made for the Land Cruiser and provides a great way to carry the indispensable ladder and all the cable channels and pipes the electrician uses to work on construction sites or at his customers’ premises. The Land Cruiser’s large roof therefore compensates for the small size of the luggage compartment where the electrician’s tools and other materials are kept!
