An NV400 with Syncro equipment for a handyman

The customer who commissioned this NV400 racking system works as a handyman and does all kinds of minor household repairs as well as gardening. To help him in his work he chose a medium-large van and asked us to fit a racking system that left plenty of space on the floor, not just for gardening equipment but for the branches and prunings he has to dispose of.

If the solutions seen in these photos are suitable for your own van, carry on reading to learn more about this racking system. Want to see other racking systems for the NV400? Look here! Alternatively, this page illustrates a Fiat Doblò with a racking system for another handyman.

Bodywork liners

Given the way this van is going to be used, it was particularly important to protect the interior against damp, dents and scratches. The customer chose to fit a birch plywood floor liner with a dark brown resin surface and painted steel panels for the walls and doors. The right-side wheel arch is protected by a tailor-made plywood panel (front) and aluminium panelling (top).

A simple racking system that leaves plenty of free space

Racking is installed only on the left of the van, and does not cover the entire wall. This leaves plenty of free floor space and ensures easy access from the van’s rear and side doors. The racking consists of:
  • a floor-level compartment with a lift-and-rotate door over the wheel arch; the wheel arch itself has not been covered since it is already enclosed by the racking
  • four large metal drawers and another two shallow ones; inside, all the drawers are fitted with non-slip mats and internal space dividers to keep tools and other small items tidy and instantly to hand when needed, saving time and money for the van’s owner
  • two shelves with top-pivot doors bottom profiles
  • a top tray
  • The racking side panel facing the van’s rear doors is fitted with a paper roll holder. Thanks to the equally spaced holes in Syncro Ultra side panels, this holder and any other accessories can be moved to another position at any time.

Cargo bars: a great way to divide up the cargo compartment

The floor and roof in the centre of the van are fitted with rails across the cargo compartment, for holding vertical cargo bars. Syncro’s aluminium cargo bars have an Airline profile milled into the face and are covered in rubber on the narrow sides to avoid scratching the material they support. Rails can also be fitted to the van’s walls. Used in conjunction with cargo bars, they provide a great way to divide up cargo space without installing permanent partitions, and help hold cargo securely in place. Cargo rails and bars are an excellent solution for transporting large, fragile objects like glass doors and windows.
